Clapp Pool will be hosting Parks and Recreation’s second annual
K-9 Splashfest on Sunday, August 13, 2006 from 1:00-6:00 p.m.
What better way to celebrate “man’s best friend” than to give them their own play day at Clapp Pool!

Dress up your dog for the Swim Suit Competition – no swimming required! For those dogs that love the water, compete in the Dog Paddle Race, Diving and Retrieving events. You can also just swim with your dogs during our open swim times! Prizes will be awarded for 1st place in each event. Sponsors for the event include the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation, Lubbock Fun Club, South Plains Obedience Training Club, Dr. Jeanette Lubenau and Above and Beyond Pet Care Hospital. Door prizes and concessions will be available. Anyone interested in having a booth or volunteering at the event should contact 775-2685.

Dogs must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccination and have with them a 2006 rabies tag or certificate from a veterinarian. Aggressive dogs or dogs in heat are not allowed. Participants can register early or on the day of the event. For a list of rules and a registration form, contact Parks and Recreation at 775-2685 or go to www.playlubbock.com. The schedule for the day is listed below:

1:00 p.m. Open Swim
1:30 p.m. Swim Suit Competition (scored) (for both Youth and Adult owners)
2:00 p.m. Dog Paddle Race (timed event)*
2:45 p.m. Diving Competition (scored)*
3:30 p.m. Retrieving Competition (timed event)*
4:15 p.m. Open Swim (after events are completed)*

Clapp Pool is located inside K. N. Clapp Park at 46th Street and Avenue U. Admission fees for participants are $2 for adults and $1.50 for youth 17 or younger. Dogs and spectators get in free!
