September 1….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase - This week's featured - and final act of the 2011 season - is John Sprott, performing authentic rock 'n' roll. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and innovative environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas made music. Summer Showcase 2011 is free. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. No outside food, beverages or coolers allowed. Buddy Holly Center Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

September 1….Lubbock Fun Club Singles "SOS" Monthly Dinner -
Come and enjoy friends and food at Cagle's Steak House. No reservations required. Come prepared to have a great time and share a good meal together! Tell a friend...better yet, bring a friend! Cagle's Steak House, 118 Inler Ave (west 4th Street & north FM 179); 6:30 p.m.

September 1….Asleep at the Wheel in Concert -
Don't miss your chance to see the nine-time Grammy award winning Kings of Texas Swing when they return to the Cactus stage for a rollickin' good time! September 2….First Friday Art Trail
- See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. For more info and complete schedule click HERE! The trail runs throughout downtown and Depot District from 6-9 p.m.

September 2….Cactus Theater: Happy Hour / Prince, Aerosmith and Journey Event
- After work, come start your weekend out on the Cactus Marquee Patio during Happy Hour from 6 to 9 p.m. You don't want to miss this great summer happening, featuring live entertainment by West Texas' finest talents. This week's featured artist is Kevin Long. Admission is always free and concessions will be available After Happy Hour, rock out with a tribute to Prince, Aerosmith and Journey featuring Dustin Garrret, Toby Caldwell, Ryan Garza, Bryan Pacheco, Jason Fellers, Amber Pennington, Jaden Terry and Alissa Beyer as they pay tribute to three of the greatest Rock artists of all time! Summer gas buster tickets are only $17.50 and can be bought at the door or reserved beforehand by calling the box office at 762-3233. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

September 2-3….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents: "Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story" - A mainstay of the LMM repertoire for the past two years....but this year being staged at the Lubbock High School Auditorium, Buddy’s high school! Conceived by Laurie Mansfield and co-written by Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson with music direction by John Banister and additional stage direction by Gerald Dolter. Groups of 10 or more will receive $2.00 off per ticket. Call Select-a-Seat at (806) 770-200 or Toll Free 1-800-735-1288. September 3….Texas Teck Red Raider College Football - The 2011 gridiron season kicks off a new year of anticipation and excitement! Tailgating and Raider Alley pre-game festivities in the parking lots and adjacent fields near Frazier Pavilion across from the stadium. Texas Tech vs. Texas State at Jones AT&T Stadium. 4th Street and University Avenue; 6 p.m.

September 3…..Cactus Theater presents: “Always...Patsy Cline” - More than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963, the show is based on a true story about Cline's (Amber Pennington) friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger (Jane Prince Jones), who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The show's title was inspired by Cline's letters to Seger, which were consistantly signed "Love ALWAYS...Patsy Cline." Bring the entire family and all of your friends to experience Amber Pennington's beautiful rendition of Patsy Cline and Jane Prince Jones' uncanny comical wit of Louise in this fabulously produced production! Buddy Holly Center to Celebrate Icon's 75th Birthday with Activities


September 7….Buddy Holly’s 75th Birthday Bash - The Buddy Holly Center is excited to announce Buddy’s 75th Birthday Bash in honor of Lubbock’s most famous son, Buddy Holly. Patrons are invited to tour the Center free of charge on Wednesday, September 7th from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be events and activities for the whole family! Children’s make and take activities will be available until 4 p.m.

The Day’s Featured Activites:

Screening of “The Real Buddy Holly Holly Story" - Sir Paul McCartney's masterful 1986 documentary on the life and music of Buddy Holly...featuring interviews with McCartney, friends and family. 11 a.m.

Buddy Holly Receives His Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - Live feed generously provided by KCBD NewsChannel 11. Buddy will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, September 7th in Hollywood, California in recognition of his lasting contribution to music. The ceremony will take place in front of the Capitol Records Tower at 1750 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA.
Time: 1:30 p.m. (Central)

Guided Tour of the Buddy Holly Gallery - Provided by BHC curator, Jacqueline Bober.
Time: 3:00 – 4 p.m.

Buddy’s Birthday Bash Reception
Buddy’s birthday cake and punch will be served.
Time: 4:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Prophets of Rockabilly (with J.P. McDermott) concert
Prophets of Rockabilly with special guest J.P. McDermott will perform in the Meadows Courtyard
Time: 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Jack Neal & Friends
Jack Neal and Friends will play a tribute concert to rock 'n' roll historian Bill Griggs & Buddy Holly in the Meadows Courtyard.
Time: 7:30- 8:00 p.m.

Mike Pritchard & Mark Wallney
Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney will conclude the events with a tribute performance to rock 'n' roll historian Bill Griggs & Buddy Holly.
