May 1....May SOS Singles Monthly Dinner - This month, the Lubbock Fun Club Singles group (SOS), will be meeting for dinner together at Gardski's. No reservations necessary...just come as you are and meet some fine folks while you share a meal. Everyone takes care of their own tab. Gardski's is located downtown at 2009 Broadway. Meet on the 2nd floor at 7 p.m.

May 1....“Master’s Touch Program” -
The Lubbock Master Gardener’s Association program will include topics such as lawns (grasses, fertilization, weed control & watering), plants (tomatoes, container gardening, raised bed gardening), and waterwise gardening (landscaping, Texas SmartScape, & Texas trees). Tonight is the first of three nights (May 1, 8 and 15) for the program. Cost for all three nights is $45. May 2-4....Lubbock Community Theatre: "Same Time, Next Year" - One of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, ran four years on Broadway, was a successful motion picture, and remains one of the most widely produced plays in history. It follows a love affair between people who rendezvous once a year. Twenty five years of manners, morals and attitudes are hilariously mirrored by the lovers. Directed by Joseph Ginnane; The Firehouse Theatre, Louise H. Underwood Center, 511 Avenue K; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday night and 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

May 2....First Friday Art Trail....The galleries, studios, businesses and restaurants of downtown Lubbock and beyond will join together and open their doors for Lubbock’s monthly evening of art, music and food. First Friday Art Trail showcases fabulous works of art, much of which is created locally in the unique and inspiring galleries, studios, businesses and restaurants of downtown Lubbock and throughout our city.

May 2....Relay for Life - The American Cancer Society's main fundraising event that is designed to unite those affected by cancer while raising money for the organization's research, education and advocacy efforts. Teams gather in the evening for the all-night event with tents and sleeping bags, while team members take turns walking the track to symbolize the fact that cancer never sleeps. Relay for Life is also a celebration of life. Relay begins with the Victory Lap for cancer survivors. Those who have ever been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers are asked to take a lap around the track while the community rallies around in support. According to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is a way to remember those who have lost their battles with cancer. Luminaria ceremonies and slideshows remember those lost but also honor those who have survived. For more info email Russ.Erbe@ttu.edu or call 806-773-0760. May 2....Kenny Maines Unplugged - The Cactus Theater is proud to welcome this legendary West Texas artist as he brings this very special concert to the stage. Kenny, a veteran of music since his early beginnings with the second generation Maines Brothers Band, has influenced the sounds of West Texas music for three decades. This concert will be a delightful, up-close glimpse of the heart of Kenny and his music. Join Kenny and his special guests for an intimate and fun evening. May 2-3....The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra: Bohemians and Their Rhapsodies - Conclusion of the 2007-08 Global Journeys season with the Grand Finale Concert featuring works of two of the greatest Bohemian masters, Antonín Dvorák and Gustav Mahler. Performance will include Dvorak’s Concerto for Violin in a minor, featuring violinist Yuval Yaron and Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1. May 8...."Step Out Step Up" - Mixing social networking with philanthropy, South Plains Mall is joining 65 sister shopping centers across the country to create more than 30,000 wellness bags for women cancer patients nationwide in a single-day. Women – including mothers and daughters – are invited to help create these wellness bags, which will be distributed locally to female cancer patients through Komen for the Cure and local cancer centers just in time for Mother’s Day.
