We're going to the birds this weekend!
This Sunday at 2:00, the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be bringing birds and other animals for their presentation at the Texas Outdoor Adventure. This is just one of the many things you'll find at the two day event at the Civic Center this Saturday and Sunday. It's free to attend and will have something for everyone. Ebony Fashion Fair is the celebrated traveling fashion production coordinated by Ebony magazine and produced by Eunice Johnson, wife of Ebony publisher John H. Johnson. The event is coming to Lubbock on March 28, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theater. This is an annual scholarship fundraiser for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Tickets are only $20 for adults. Call 441-0060 for more information.

Unusual Chance to Learn about Parenting April 6
“The Influence of Parenting Roles on Children’s Social/Emotional Development”, 9:00 – 11:00, featuring Dr. Pruett who is professor of psychiatry at Yale University Child Study Center, an author, and a consultant to ABC, CBS and Sesame Street. He co-hosts with Oprah Winfrey the video, Begin with Love. This presentation will be at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 1411 Broadway. For more information call

The Lubbock Arts Festival is that day -- all day -- with TONS of things for the kids to do, paint, eat, see, hear, etc. But if you plan it just right ... then, that evening at 7:00, you can end your day with the delightful Miss Patty Cake!

Miss Patty Cake is a nationally recognized children’s song lady and she will be in concert on April 21at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church (98th & Indiana). She's a burst of energy and while geared for preschoolers and younger grade schoolers, it is great entertainment for the whole family. Tickets are on sale at Mardels for only $5.

A home away from home in Ruidoso!
We were told about these cabins and actually had the chance to "check it out" over Spring Break.
If you are going to Ruidoso or just want to get away for a weekend, this is an absolute "find". Sure, we stayed in the Special Occasion cabin ... but our friends stayed in the cabin next door and all of them are nice! With prices ranging from $89 to $219 for one to two bedroom cabins, you can't beat it! Look at the pictures!!>

Our City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department received the Texas
Recreation and Parks Society 2005 Gold Medal Award at the Annual
Statewide Institute banquet held in Fort Worth on March 10. The Gold Medal Award is the highest statewide honor possible for a municipal parks and recreation department.
