K9 SplashFest is THIS SUNDAY!
What better way to celebrate "man's best friend" than to give them their own play day at Clapp Pool! Dress up your dog for the Swim Suit Competition - no swimming required! For those dogs that love the water, compete in the Dog Paddle Race, Diving and Retrieving events. You can also just swim with your dogs during our open swim times! Spectators will enjoy the fun and learn about Pet CPR, Microchips and basic dog care! Sponsors for the event include the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation and Animal Services, Lubbock Fun Club, Fox 34, UPN 22, Ramar Communications, Above and Beyond Pet Care Hospital, Cimarron Pet Cemetery and Crematorium, Cimarron Pet Salon, Dog Gone Beautiful and Pampered Pets. First prize in each event is a free family portrait with your dog provided by Diamond Photography. Door prizes and concessions will be available. Click here for more.

Teach your children to SEE RED in August!
Share this with your children and grandchildren.
NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, Mars grows progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month of August, culminating on August 27 when Mars will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. Astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again. Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

Underwood Center for the Arts. Along with screenings of 13 films selected for the competition, the festival features a screening of the new film Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party. A panel discussion will feature Texas Film Commission director Tom Copeland.
