November 19
….Bulb Planting Workdays at the Arboretum - Over the past two years the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum has planted over 10,000 daffodil bulbs along their walking paths and in their flower beds. They are working hard to create a colorful Springtime flower show for the Lubbock community to enjoy, and they need your help! This year they have 3,300 daffodil and crocus bulbs that need to be planted in November throughout the Arboretum, and there are two workdays so that multiple groups can participate. Basically, the job is digging holes and putting the bulbs in them. It’s so easy! The Bulb Planting Workdays are a great volunteer opportunity for families, individuals and civic groups because everyone is out there working together, getting dirty and having fun. The volunteers usually work in groups of 2-3, digging and planting as a team alongside other pairs of volunteers. This is a fabulous way to meet and get to know new people! Hot cider and cocoa will be provided for the volunteers, and as many tools as they can gather up. Volunteers should wear layered, warm clothing and closed-toe shoes. You do not have to bring your own shovel, but if you can it would help! You are welcome to work the morning shift, the afternoon, or pitch in all day and “picnic in the park” on your own during the lunch break. Saturday, Nov 19th is National Family Volunteer Day!
