October 7-8….LCU Fall Musical: “Cinderella”
- The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. Starring Sarah Anderson, a junior from Brownfield as Cinderella, Nick Clifton, a junior from Tomball as Prince Charming, and Devon Langford, a junior from Lubbock as the Fairy Godmother. Directed by Don Williams and Laurie Doyle. Tickets available for purchase September 1, 2011 on the LCU website.

Parks and Recreation Department Seeking Help for "Pumpkin Trail"

I
n less than three weeks, the trails in the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum will be lined with hundreds of lighted jack-o-lanterns for Parks and Recreation’s 3rd Annual Pumpkin Trail! To make this happen, we need the people of Lubbock to donate their carved pumpkins to the Pumpkin Trail. The more carved pumpkins we get from the community, the longer the trail. Last year, we received 1,553 pumpkins and over 10,650 people walked the trail! Our goal this year is 2,000 or more pumpkins! Watch the pumpkin count grow at www.playlubbock.com, on Facebook at Lubbock Pumpkin Trail hosted by the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum or on the Pumpkin Trail website at www.lubbockpumpkintrail.shutterfly.com

To date, we have 709 pumpkins already pledged to the trail, so we are well on our way to our goal. Groups bringing 10 or more pumpkins will have a sign posted along the trail with their name or logo on it. Pumpkin carvings must be family-friendly and appropriate for even the youngest child. We are asking all participants to carve their pumpkins no earlier than Monday, October 17, so that they stay fresh throughout the four-day event. Whether you plan to carve one pumpkin or a dozen, call “Pumpkin Central” at Maxey Community Center, 767-3796, and let us know how many pumpkins you are bringing as we build towards our goal! In addition to pumpkins, we are also signing up volunteer groups to help each night as candle lighters, trail guides and counters.

Deliver carved pumpkins to the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Lubbock Memorial Arboretum is located at 4111 University and the delivery site is on the east side of the parking lot. Look for the “DELIVER PUMPKINS HERE” signs!
