….Cactus Theater: Happy Hour / Prince, Aerosmith and Journey Event - After work, come start your weekend out on the Cactus Marquee Patio during Happy Hour from 6 to 9 p.m. You don't want to miss this great summer happening, featuring live entertainment by West Texas' finest talents. This week's featured performer is Rachel Porter. Admission is always free and concessions will be available After Happy Hour, rock out with a tribute to Prince, Aerosmith and Journey featuring Dustin Garrret, Toby Caldwell, Ryan Garza, Bryan Pacheco, Jason Fellers, Amber Pennington, Jaden Terry and Alissa Beyer as they pay tribute to three of the greatest Rock artists of all time! Summer gas buster tickets are only $17.50 and can be bought at the door or reserved beforehand by calling the box office at 762-3233. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave. Concert starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.


September 23….Kaleidoscope of Choirs -
A non-stop, surround sound, not-to be-missed preview of all of the Tech choirs. University Choir, University Singers, Women’s Chorale, Matador Singers, and Madrigal Singers collaborate for an evening of sensational sound and entertainment. Admission is free. Hemmle Recital Hall Recital, Music Building on the Tech campus; 8 p.m

September 23, 24….Fall Festival: Ransom Canyon on the Island

September 23, 24….Lubbock Symphony Orchestra presents: The Complete Piano Concerti of Beethoven - In a rare and delightful event, acclaimed pianist Adam Golka will perform all five of Beethoven’s Piano Concerti in two consecutive nights. You won’t want to miss either evening, as his mastery astounds us when he shares the stage with his talented brother. The Friday performance will feature Piano Concerti Nos. 2, 3, 4 and Saturday’s performance will feature Piano Concerti Nos. 1 & 5 “Emperor.” Tickets may be purchased in the LSO office at 601 Ave K or by phone at 806.762.1688. eptember 23, 24, 25….Lubbock Community Theatre presents: “Steel Magnolias” – LCT begins it’s 2011-2012 season with this classic play written by Robert Harling and directed by Jake Morgan. The action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. This classic play, which was made into an award-winning film with Sally Field and Dolly Parton, is filled with a special quality to make the characters truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. Lubbock Community Theatre, 4232 Boston Ave; Friday/Saturday 8 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m.

September 24….Community-Wide Garage Sale
- Ventura Place Retirement Community is hosting a community-wide garage sale to benefit CASA of the South Plains. CASA of the South Plains recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in the foster care system. CASA volunteers strive to secure a permanent placement for every child in a safe and caring environment. All proceeds will benefit CASA. September 24….Texas' Last Frontier Ranch Heritage Tour - Visit historic ranches and other sites of historical interest in far West Texas! Participants will board air-conditioned buses in Levelland, Texas to visit C. C. Slaughter's Zavala Camp, the L7 and T-Bar Ranch Headquarters, Double Lakes in Lynn County where a soldier from the 1877 Buffalo Soldier Expedition is said to be buried, the historic courthouse and a festival on the grounds in Tahoka as well as a stop at Tahoka Lake, and the Meadow Museum and other historic buildings in the northern Terry County Town of Meadow. The tour culminates with a barbecue dinner, country and western music, and a living re-enactment of the life of Mrs. Fount (Mary Beal) Oxsheer by Annalon Gilbreath in Ropesville at the Ropesville Resettlement Project Community Building. The ticket price of $75 ($85 after 9/14/11) covers the full day of events, including the bus tour, a book on the tour sites, lunch, evening meal, and entertainment. Seating on the buses is limited, so order your tickets soon! Auditions for "Expect Respect" Theater Ensemble - Women’s Protective Services of Lubbock, Inc., and the Louis Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts have partnered to empower young people to use their talents to speak out about Teen Dating Violence, Bullying, and other interpersonal violence issues. The Theater Ensemble will begin September 2011 with the debut performance during February, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Theater Ensemble members will develop original performance pieces that speak out about interpersonal violence and take a stand to create a better community. The performance will be toured all over our community to local schools and other venues that teens wi11 be impacted and motivated to make change! Call Roy at 806-748-5292 for more info. September 24….College Football: Texas Tech vs. Nevada - The Red Raiders return home after a bye week and the away game at New Mexico last week. Tailgating and Raider Alley pre-game festivities in the parking lots and adjacent fields near Frazier Pavilion across from the stadium. Jones AT&T Stadium. 4th Street and University Avenue; 6 p.m.

September 24…..Cactus Theater presents: “Always...Patsy Cline” - More than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963, the show is based on a true story about Cline's (Amber Pennington) friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger (Jane Prince Jones), who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The show's title was inspired by Cline's letters to Seger, which were consistantly signed "Love ALWAYS...Patsy Cline." Bring the entire family and all of your friends to experience Amber Pennington's beautiful rendition of Patsy Cline and Jane Prince Jones' uncanny comical wit of Louise in this fabulously produced production! Panhandle South Plains Fair Opens Weeklong Run Starting Tomorrow


September 23 - October 1….2011 Panhandle South Plains Fair
– The fair is back with free concerts, carnival midway, food and refreshments, exhibitors, merchants and lots of fun. Fair admission prices are: Adults, 13 and over ($8.00), Children, 2-12 ($3.00) and parking ($5.00). Special days during fair week are: Family Day (September 25) -All persons under 18 years of age admitted free until 9 p.m. and Senior Citizens Day (September 27) - All persons over 60 pay only $4.00. For more information call 806-763-2833. South Plains Fair Grounds, (From I-27 North or South, take Exit 4 East. The Fairgrounds are located on the northeast corner of Broadway and US-87); The Fair gates will open at 7a.m. daily and close at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. The carnival opens at 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and operates until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.
