THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY

July 21, 22, 23…. Melodrama in the Park - This year’s melodrama will be "Last Chance Inn, Calamity Gulch," by Whitney Ryan Garrity, directed by Whitney Ryan Garrity and Mickie Klafka. Ma and Pa Culpepper are in danger of losing their livelihood - the Last Chance Inn - to Horace Prickley, a representative from the loan offices of Gimme, Gimme & Gimme. In need of a son or son-in-law, the Culpeppers scheme to adopt and marry off pretty (but clumsy) orphan-turned-waitress, Patience Sweetwater. The intended groom is the newly-appointed Sheriff Virgil St. Vigil, who makes the rounds with his deputy and trusted side-kick, Princess Prettyfoot. Prickley learns of the Culpeppers' plot and enlists the aid of the beautiful Sahara Hartburn to "distract" the Sheriff from Patience. At 6:30 p.m. the performances of the melodrama will be preceded by the one-act Teen Show in the Park, "Antic Spring," by Robert Nail, directed by Patrick Jones. In an open touring car are young people of high school age going on a picnic. There is Ginger, earnest and overbearingly sunny; Robert, the sensitive one, impressed only by poetry (or ants); Blossom, the exuberant and idiotic teenager; Sam and Gwendolyn, the lovers who live a life of adolescent violence, ranging from rage to young soulfulness; and Elbert, the little brother who looks with noisy criticism on their actions and suffers their company only for the food likely to be served. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a free night out! Wagner Park (28th and Flint), one-act Teen Show at 6:30 p.m. and melodrama at 7:30 p.m.
