March 18….SPECIAL EVENT: Premiere of "Tornado Alley" film featuring Doug Smith's new recording “If I Could Fly” - After nearly four years since his tragic spinal cord injury, concert pianist Doug Smith returns with his first release of new material. This release marks a milestone in a career that has spanned nearly thirty years of recording music and nine full albums. The new piece is entitled, If I Could Fly... In the song, Smith is joined by talented musicians including; Don Caldwell on tenor and soprano saxophones, Lloyd Maines on steel guitar, Brian McRae on drums, bass, and acoustic guitars, Richard Bowden on violin, viola, and cello, Nic Shute on trumpet, Steve Cooper on Irish flute and Todd Caldwell on Hammond organ and Fender Rhodes. This new piece, as with many of Doug’s previous songs, gets its inspiration from the vast expanses of the stark, yet beautiful, West Texas Plains and the people who call it home. Written and produced with the idea of being specifically paired with aerial video footage shot throughout West Texas, If I Could Fly… sets the tone for a breathtaking, immersive theater experience. The song is part of a new pre-show video to air before each feature film showing at the Science Spectrum’s OMNI Theater beginning Friday, March 18th. The video was produced by Wally Moyers, Stuart Blalock, and Joseph Mullins of locally owned Studio 84. Narration is provided by Ingrid Holly Kaiter. The new Doug Smith If I Could Fly… pre-show at the OMNI Theater will begin in conjunction with the opening of the OMNI Theater’s latest film, Tornado Alley. What better fit for a song that highlights the West Texas Plains than being paired with a film that showcases the awesome power of nature in that very setting! For additional Tornado Alley film information visit; http://www.tornadoalleymovie.com/ If I Could Fly… (music and video presentation) will also be available for purchase in the Science Spectrum’s Gift Shop on DVD mixed in 5.1 surround sound. The DVD will include a digital stereo version of the song, as both an audio wav file and an mp3 file, that can be imported into portable media players. The DVD copies will retail for $10.00. Doug Smith will hold a public meet-and-greet DVD signing at the Science Spectrum’s OMNI Theater on Saturday, March 19th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Science Spectrum Museum
