October 21-23….The Friends of Wolfforth Library Book Sale -
The Friends is a non-profit organization supporting the programs and services of the area. For more information regarding the sale, call 806-866-9280. Wolfforth Library, 508 E Highway 62/82 in Wolfforth. Hours each day: Thursday: 1 p.m.- 8 p.m., Friday: 10 a.m.- 8 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

October 21-24….2nd Annual Pumpkin Trail - Bring your families and friends and walk along a lighted trail of carved jack-o-lanterns in the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum in Clapp Park! Stroller and wheelchair accessible! Two entrances this year: Lubbock Memorial Arboretum at 4111 University and the Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center at 4215 University. Parking available at the following locations with shuttles available each night: Hodges Community Center ~ 40th Street and University Garden and Arts Center ~ 44th Street and University Safety City/Clapp Pool ~ 46th University and Avenue U (east side of Clapp Park). There is a great need for your carved pumpkins for the community-built Pumpkin Trail. Groups bringing 10 or more pumpkins will have a sign posted along the trail with their name or logo. Call 767-3796 in advance to let them know how many pumpkins you are bringing. The updated pumpkin count will be posted on the Lubbock Fun Club homepage. Deliver carved pumpkins to the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum at 4111 University on the east side of the parking lot on Wednesday and Thursday, October 20th and 21st from 7:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Look for the "DELIVER PUMPKINS HERE" signs. Pumpkin lighting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday times are from 6 p.m.- 10 p.m. Daylight tours of an autumn scene of pumpkins, fall foliage and blue sky are from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday-Sunday.


FRIDAY ONLY


October 22….Make-A-Wish Dinner Concert – Come and enjoy a night of dinner and entertainment to help raise funds for the children with life-threatening medical conditions in the area. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains will host a concert that features local musicians donating their time and talent for our kids. Dinner will be catered by Abuelo’s. There will be a live auction intermission and door prizes will be given throughout the evening. Musicians include: Kenny Maines, Scrapyard Lullaby, Doctors & Their Guitars, Steve Williams, Jay Horton, Grady Terrill, Donnie Maines, Casey Maines & Chad Maines. Cost: (tickets can be purchased through Make-A-Wish) is $30/person and $50/couple. October 22….University Singers/University Choir Concert - The Texas Tech University School of Music and The College of Visual & Performing Arts presents "The Breath of Life", featuring Quinn Patrick Ankrum in Aaron Copland's In The Beginning. Admission to this event is free. Hemmle Recital Hall, Music Building on the Tech campus; 8 p.m.

October 22-23 (repeats October 29-30; November 5-6, 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25) “Minnie’s Pearls” - Who could have ever dreamed that a country gal with a $1.98 price tag hanging from her straw hat would become the queen of country comedy? For 50 years, the character Sarah Cannon created in "Minnie Pearl" held her position on the Grand Ole Opry with her countrified comedy routines. In her decades of appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, Minnie crossed paths, befriended and inspired many, many female country artists. The Cactus Theater proudly presents Jane Prince Jones as Minnie Pearl and Terri Caldwell singing the hit songs of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Reba McEntire, in their second production endeavor. Continuing in the tradition of "Always, Patsy Cline" come see this wonderful duo make their magic on stage once more in "Minnie's Pearls." Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at 762.3233. October 22-23….Lubbock Symphony Orchestra “In The Grand Tradition” – The special guest is violinist Robert Chen, concertmaster for the world-renowned Chicago Symphony for the presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “ Violin Concerto.” This piece connotes the grandeur of 19th century Russian imperial courts, from its ornate royal processions to its magnificent theater and ballet productions. Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 9, Great” will also be featured. Hailed as one of the most important pieces of music ever composed, the “Great” opened the doorway for the symphonies of the 19th century, giving meaning and inspiration to many of that century’s greatest composers, such as Bruckner and Mahler. Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theater, 1501 Mac Davis Lane; 8 p.m.

October 22-23 (repeats October 29-30)….2nd Annual Scare House - Looking for a fright this Halloween? Come by the 2nd Annual ScareHouse: Hangar of Horrors brought to you by the Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi. Tickets $6 per person at the door. Bring a canned food item, benefiting the South Plains Food Bank and receive $1 off per can up to three cans. October 22-24….The Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale – The FOL are having their annual book sale sale to raise funds to support a wide variety of programs for the Lubbock Public Libraries. Friday, Oct 22, (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is the "members only" sale. New members may join individual/family for only $10 at the door, students $5, business $100. Saturday, Oct 23, (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct 24, (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) is open to the general public. There will be books galore, including fiction, cookbooks, mystery, non-fiction, music, history, religion, 'better books', education, biography, children's Texana, puzzles & games, grab bags, framed prints, cds, dvds, & videos, books on tape, music on vinyl, tape and cd, and an incredible Silent Auction. October 22-24 (repeats October 29-31, November 5-7)….“The Elephant Man” - John Merrick, a young man with a severaly debilitating disease, is rescued by Dr. Frederick Treves from his exploitation as a side-show freak and becomes a London celebrity. Merrick changes the lives of those around him as he questions the rules of Victorian society. Winner of numerous Tony Awards including Best Play, the New York Times said that "It addresses the simple issue of what it means to be human." Rating: Drama: PG 13. October 23….6th Annual Haven Animal Shelter Strut for the Mutts – This is a 1.5 mile walk (with or without your dog). Cost is $25/adult, $10/children (children under 2 walk free). Every participant receives a t-shirt, every dog receives a bandana (special bandanas for adopted dogs!) A raffle will be held after the walk (sonic gift cards, grooming certificates, pet supplies, etc). There will be a raffle ticket for each participant and extras may be purchased for $3 each, 2/$5, or bring 5 cans of Pedigree canned dog food to receive extra tickets. Higginbotham Park ,19th and Vicksburg Avenue. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

October 23….Lord's Acre Harvest Bazaar - This year's event will have over 40 booths plus offering a variety of items guaranteed to delight you. You'll find many handmade items including quilts, jewelry, personal accessories, home accessories, children's items, framed photographs, and much more! The Country Store will offer a bounty of food including jellies, frozen casseroles, pies, and other sweets just to name a few. Come and buy, sell or trade with exhibitors from all around. Admission: $5 for adults, children under 12 are free, 2 for 1 first hour both days - $1 off active military or NRA w/ID.
