September 2….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series
Finale - The Buddy Holly Center is offering another hot summer of music and fun every Thursday evening. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and innovative environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. Summer Showcase 2010 is free to the public. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. No outside beverages, coolers or food are allowed. Pete's Curbside will have food available to purchase.This week's performer is Patricia Vonne of Austin. Buddy Holly Center, Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Ave; 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.

September 2…."SOS" (Adult Singles 50+) Monthly Dinner
Come and enjoy an evening at Cagle's Steaks. Fun Club members are required to make a reservation. Please RSVP by 6 p.m. on August 30th to Jeanne at 806-777-9484 or email jeanne.ford@att.net . First time guests need not make a reservation. Because the group is so large, you will not be able to pick and choose from the menu. Limited meal choices are: steak (ribeye 8-9 oz. or 12-14 oz.) served with baked potato, grilled chicken served over a bed of rice, grilled salmon served over a bed of rice. September 3….First Friday Art Trail
- Don't miss this months event as this is the last month to see Ken Dixon's spectacular show, "Order & Disorder- 'Loop" in the Christine DeVitt Exhibition Hall. The Helen DeVitt Jones Studio Gallery will feature "chiCrits, a group exhibition. Tom Hicks, a local ceramicist will have a solo exhibit in the Martin McDonald Hall Gallery. In the Jon F. Lott Gallery, Shreepad Joglekar and Ian Thomas will present an exciting site-specific installation. The Helen DeVitt Jones Clay Studio will once again feature works for sale by various artists. Included are Marsha Davis, mosaics; Marilee Bybee, jewelry and ceramics; Roger Holmes, pottery and other special guest artists. Tori Vasquez will once again give a free concert in the Firehouse Theatre. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7 p.m.. We look forward to seeing you there! Also, see the regular art venues and catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. September 3....Movies @ The Museum

The featured film is "Nosferatu" (1922), 6:30pm. (Black and white, with musical score; 1hr-24min). Director F.W. Munarau. An adaptation of Bram Stoker's, "Dracula" story with extremely imaginative makeup, sets and staging. Really very scary and creepy for it's time....but in a low-key manner; much of the "fright" is left to your imagination. Free admission and parking. There will be a brief talk by Rob Weiner about the film prior to the screening. Helen DeVitt Jones Auditorium 3301 4th Street; 6:30 p.m.

September 3-4 (repeats September 10-11)….C.A.T.S. production of "Insane With Power" – In this production written by Scott Haan and directed by “Doc” Rivera, journalist Lois Lancaster is writing a story about the current state of modern mental health facilities. Her research takes her to a hospital populated with a unique group of quirky inmates who imagine themselves to be crime-fighting superheroes. Lois finds the elaborate superhero fantasies of Dim Bulb, Mental, Speed Freak and Kevin to be an entertaining diversion, the wild delusions of unstable minds. That is, at first. September 3-4….The JDs in Concert – The Doo Wop quartet is back on the Cactus stage! A night full of comedic wit, cool vibes and amazing musical talent featuring Donnie Allison, Jason Fellers, Jeff Bailey, Mark Paden and the Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine. September 3-4; 6-7….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents: “Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story"The music of Buddy Holly has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world and this show tells the story of the tragically short life of a young man from Lubbock, who - along with his high-school friends formed a band called the Crickets - turned country music upside down to create some of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs ever written. We share Buddy’s frustrations through his first recording contract; the excitement America felt when ‘That’ll Be The Day’ hit #1; his naïve determination to be the first white act to play the Apollo Theatre in Harlem; his whirlwind romance and marriage; concluding with the ill-fated ‘Winter Dance Party’ tour of the Midwest. RAVE ON! Full Slate of Events Mark Buddy Holly 74th Birthday Week

September 1-7….Buddy's 74th Birthday Celebration - The Buddy Holly Center is excited to announce Buddy's 74th Birthday Bash in honor of Lubbock's most famous son, Buddy Holly. Patrons are invited to tour the center free of charge on Tuesday, September 7th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Family-friendly events and activities will take place around the city to celebrate what would have been Buddy's 74th birthday!

Schedule of Events:

Friday, September 3….Music at South Plains Mall - Lubbock Moonlight Musical Band and Sherry Holley will perform. Time: 5 p.m. – 6: 30 p.m.

Larry Holley Book Signing at Barnes & Noble - Larry Holley will give a brief speech and sign copies of his book, I Don't Know How I Did It. Time: 6:30 p.m.

Children's Activities in South Plains Mall Courtyard - Childrens' make and takes and 1940s games will provide entertainment for children of all ages. Time: 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 4….Activities at the Buddy Holly Center: Poodle Skirts and Hot Rods Workshop - Take a step back into the 1950s and create your very own poodle skirt or hot rod. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by August 31st. Contact Lisa Howe, Education Coordinator, at 806.775.3567. Ages: 5 & up; ages 5-8 w/parent. Cost: $7
