August 26….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series
- The Buddy Holly Center is offering another hot summer of music and fun every Thursday evening. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and innovative environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. Summer Showcase 2010 is free to the public. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. No outside beverages, coolers or food are allowed. Pete's Curbside will have food available to purchase.This week's performer is the Thrift Store Cowboys (alternative country). Buddy Holly Center, Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Ave; 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.

(repeats September 3-4; 10-11)….C.A.T.S. production of "Insane With Power" – In this production written by Scott Haan and directed by “Doc” Rivera, journalist Lois Lancaster is writing a story about the current state of modern mental health facilities. Her research takes her to a hospital populated with a unique group of quirky inmates who imagine themselves to be crime-fighting superheroes. Lois finds the elaborate superhero fantasies of Dim Bulb, Mental, Speed Freak and Kevin to be an entertaining diversion, the wild delusions of unstable minds. That is, at first. - Featuring the greatest classic hits of Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, George Jones and more! Featured performers are Jeff Bailey, Jerry Brownlow, Mary Fletcher, Lesley Arbona, Blaire Elbert & the Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine! Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7:30 p.m.

August 27-28….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents "Willy Wonka” - The musical “Willy Wonka” is based on Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate factory,” adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse and Tim McDonald. Gerald Dolter is stage director; Jacob Miller will conduct. John Davis stars as Willy Wonka, with Benjamin Betts as Charlie Bucket and Mark Martin as Grandpa Joe. For tickets call Select-A-Seat at 806.770.2000. Wells Fargo Amphitheater, in Mackenzie Park. 413 E. Broadway. Gates open at 7 p.m.; shows begin at 8 p.m.

August 28….Apple Country Orchards Ladybug and Roasted Chili Saturday - It is Ladybug release time and all kids are invited to come help release the ladybugs into the orchard to keep the apples and veggies free from pesticides and other insects who love to chew! There will also be roasting hatch chilis, free hayrides through the orchard, BBQ brisket and fixins for lunch, fresh veggies and a lot of apple picking! Fresh peach and apple pancakes and sausage will be served starting at 9 a.m. with proceeds to benefit the South Plains Food Bank GRUB kids. Apple Country Orchards, 4 miles east of Idalou on Hwy 62; 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

August 28….Cap*Rock Harvest Festival & Grape Crush 2010 - Come out to Cap*Rock Winery and celebrate the 2010 harvest season! This is a family friendly event and will include; food for sale from local caterers, wine, frozen wine slushies, live music, giveaways, bounce house, grape stomping and much more. Just announced, musical guest Jake Kellen will be flying in from Nashville for the performance. Cost: $10 per person over 21. Ticket price includes wine glass to take home & 2 wine drink tickets. Ages 21 & under are admitted at no charge. Cap*Rock Winery, 408 East Woodrow Road; Noon to 6 p.m.

August 28….Lubbock Lions Club 46th Annual TV/Internet Auction - Sit back, enjoy and bid on items at The Lubbock Lions Club’s 46th Annual TV/Internet Auction. The televised portion of the fundraising auction will be broadcast on KCBD News Channel 11 on Saturday, August 28, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. until midnight, except for the 10 p.m. break for the evening news. Two LCD flat panel high definition televisions, a Grillmaster stainless steel propane grill and an Apple iPAD are among the many items now available for internet bidding at www.lubbocklions.org. New items are added daily to the web auction. Bidders have the option of watching the auction and bidding for a variety of items the evening of August 28th or bidding online at the internet auction site. Bidders who follow the internet auction will get to see merchandise as it is donated to the auction. The internet site also offers the option of bidding online to those who want to participate but may be out of the viewing area. Items of all types and price ranges are donated for the auction each year. Items valued at $100 or more will be included in the televised portion of the auction. All profits go back to the community and to other Lions-supported charities. To donate merchandise, make a financial contribution or for information about this fundraiser please call the Lubbock Lions Club Office at 763-4789.

August 29….“Viva La Voce” – The Texas Tech School of Music and the College of Visual & Performing Arts present the Lubbock Chorale's gala season opener with the voice faculty featured. With solos, duets, and composites, the vocalists will sing artistically entertaining selections from musicals and opera. Tickets are $30 per person ( no at-the-door sales). ugust 30….Hub Performing Arts School Auditions For 2010-2011 Advanced Performance Team - Team members must be in the third grade through senior in high school. You should prepare a short song and a short monologue for the audition. You may also be asked to dance. The Advanced Performance Team represents Hub Performing Arts School in the community and around the nation through performances of musical theatre and competitions. Fall 2010 will be focused on preparing for competition at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta in mid January. The team will also be preparing the pilot performance of Peter Pan Jr. Disney Theatricals has asked us to be the first group to perform this new show! Team members should be available Saturday mornings for rehearsals and available for the December performance of "Peter Pan Jr." Please indicate the time slot you will audition in by emailing hubperformingarts@att.net. Hub Performing Arts School, 3833-50th St. Suite # 3. Audition times are as follows: 4-5 p.m.; 5-6 p.m.; 6-7 p.m.; 7-8 p.m.

August 30….Faculty Baroque Concert - The Texas Tech School of Music and the College of Visual & Performing Arts present a concert featuring elegant and up-lifting music by G. P. Telemann, Antonio Soler, and G. F. Handel performed by Amy Anderson (oboe), Lisa Garner-Santa (flute), Kirsten Yon (violin), Jeffrey Lastrapes (cello), John Hollins (organ/harpsichord), a chamber orchestra and Sigurd Øgaard (organ/harpsichord). Admission is free. YWCA Legacy (the former First Presbyterian Church at 14th & 0); 7 p.m.
