May 6….Lubbock Fun Club "SOS" Singles (Adults 50+) Monthly Dinner – The highly-anticipated, monthly SOS dinner is here! If you plan to attend please reply to Jeanne at 777-9484 or by email at Jeanne.ford@att.net by May 3rd so she can notify the restaurant of the number expected to come. Texas Land & Cattle, 7202 Indiana Avenue; Come at 6 p.m. for social time and enjoy dinner at 7 p.m.

May 7….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues, plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. For more info and complete schedule click HERE! This continually evolving event runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.

The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - Kick off your summer and get back into the groove with two of the hottest bands of all time: The Beach Boys and Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons! Featuring Jason Fellers, Toby Caldwell, Jeff Bailey and Jeff McCreight. With rave reviews from the previous tributes to these rock'n'roll sensations, this concert is bound to make you “Walk Like a Man” with “Good Vibrations.” Tickets: $25. May 7-8….Downtown Art Market – It’s been a year since this little experiment started...365 days of fun and work. It has been a lot of work for a lot of people and all of it worthwhile. The DAM has become one of Downtown L-Town's social events, in addition to showcasing local artists and providing a spot to pick up great local produce. The support and outpouring of love from friends and neighbors has just been overwhelming-too good to be true. This month the DAM is a two day event, Friday the 7th during the First Friday Art Trail 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. and in its usual time on Saturday the 8th from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. That's two chances to come down and see what the hub-bub is about! May 7, 8, 9 (repeats 14, 15, 16)….“No Sex Please, We’re British” - A young bride who lives above a bank with her husband who is the assistant manager, innocently sends a mail order off for some Scandinavian glassware. What comes is Scandinavian pornography. The plot revolves around what is to be done with the veritable floods of pornography, photographs, books, films and eventually girls that threaten to engulf this happy couple. The matter is considerably complicated by the man's mother, his boss, a visiting bank inspector, a police superintendent and a muddled friend who does everything wrong in his reluctant efforts to set everything right, all of which works up to a hilarious ending of closed or slamming doors. This farce ran in London over eight years and also delighted Broadway audiences. Written by Alistair Foot and Anthony Marriott and directed by John A. Packard. Rating Comedy PG 13. Lubbock Community Theatre (formerly Boston Avenue Playhouse), 4232 Boston Avenue; Fridays and Saturdays 8 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m.

SATURDAY

May 8….Summer Series in the Park Auditions - Auditions for the Summer Series in the Park will be held this weekend at the CATS Playhouse. Roles are available for both adults and children. No previous acting experience is required. This year's shows are:
Children: "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (the role of Tom Sawyer has been pre-cast), directed by Peter Contreras II;
"Shakespeare: The Taming of the Shrew" (no precasting), directed by Rolando "Doc" Rivera
Melodrama: "Here Come the Brides" (no precasting), directed by Todd Eldridge. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts. This year the shows will run in repertory fashion (alternating nights). Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the show dates are July 15-18, and July 22-25th in Clapp Park. This Saturday's auditions take place at CATS Playhouse, 2405 34th; from 10 a.m.- noon or 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

May 8….Hub Performing Arts School Production: “ Into the Woods” - This fun story is about a childless baker and his wife who try to meet the witch's demands in order to lift the spell and have the child they desire. Their journey through the woods bring them face to face with Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, Jack and the Beanstalk and more! Tickets are $10 adults $5 kids and can be purchased by calling 795-7344 or at the door. O.L. Slaton Middle School, 32nd & Ave Q; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

May 8….Tzumba World Music Ensemble Concert -The Texas Tech World Music Ensemble (Tzumba!) explores the rich and varied tradition of music and dance from around the world. The ensemble presents one concert a semester, providing a "musical rainbow" of various world cultures including West Africa, South America, Italy, and Polynesia. As music making differs from one culture to another, all members participate in a variety of contexts: as singers, dancers, drummers, and performers on indigenous instruments, of which the ensemble presently owns over thirty (djembes, shekeres, and talking drums from West Africa; sikus, quenas, and churangos from Peru; tamburellos, launeddas, and piffari from Italy; as well as an accordion and various hand percussion instruments). Based on student/faculty interest and/or experience, other world musics are explored. May 8….Singing Women of West Texas Dessert Theatre - Please come and enjoy a fun-filled evening of music, both vocal and instrumental, from the Singing Women of West Texas. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and, beginning at 7 p.m., various desserts will be served as the members of our choir entertain. A silent auction will be held and various objects of art donated by local dealers. Tickets may be purchased for $10 from any SWOWT member or at the door that night. Southcrest Baptist Church, 3801 South Loop 289; 7 p.m.

May 8….Jukebox Hits of the ’50s
- Flashback to the time of rock’n’ Juke Joints where the new sounds of rock and roll played and changed the face of pop music forever! Here’s your chance to “Twist”, “Hully Gully” or “Watusi” to the timeless hits of Elvis, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Dinah Washington, The Coasters and many more! Featuring your favorite Cactus stars, Jason Fellers, Jeff Bailey, Donnie Allison, Sheena Fadeyi, Blaire Elbert, Keegan Peck and Angela Crowson; guaranteeing a fun night that will have you swing’n’.
