March 25–28….South Plains Woodturners Exhibit - Tornado Gallery will be hosting the South Plains Woodturners show through the weekend. On Friday (tomorrow) they will be having a demonstration to go along with the show. The gallery will be open from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and the demo will be taking place from 6-9 p.m Friday. Tornado Gallery, located at the corner of 19th Street & Buddy Holly Ave.

March 26….Hospitality Coffee hosted by New Neighbors - Ladies are invited to come get acquainted with women in the community, while at the same time, learn about the various activities the organization sponsors. No reservations are necessary.5007 94th Street; 10:30 a.m.

March 26….Bob Boze Bell to Speak at NRHC -
Author and Old West historian Bob Boze Bell of Cave Creek, Arizona, will discuss “True West Moments” at the National Ranching Heritage Center. Bell is a humorist, artist and publisher of True West Magazine. He regularly appears on TV’s History and Western channels. An example is Bell’s “True West Moments,” as seen on the Encore Western channel.
Bell’s visit is sponsored by The Helen DeVitt Jones Heritage Series at the NRHC. His program will be free for Ranching Heritage Association members and $5 for non-members. March 26….“Prelude to the Dance” - The fourth annual black-tie gala, Prelude to the Dance kicks off the spring season in spectacular splendor with live entertainment, exclusive cocktails, fine wine and delectable cuisine from At Your Service. Attendees will see a sneak-peak of the spring performance, Sleeping Beauty as the Company will perform selected excerpts. Tickets are $75 by calling the Ballet Lubbock office at 785.3090. Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, 511 Ave K. 7 p.m.-10 p.m.

March 26–27….Jacques Offenbach: Orpheus in the Underworld - Texas Tech School of Music presents a political lampoon to the max, with the flavor of the South Plains and TTU thrown in for good measure. It is sung in English with orchestral accompaniment. No aspect of life or love is sacred. The foolery will have you rolling in the aisles laughing. Using Greek mythology as a backdrop for one of his buffooneries, Offenbach's full-length operetta culminates in the infernal Galop from Act II, Scene 2, which is famous outside classical circles as the music for the "Can-can." Tickets to the event are $15-general admission, $13-seniors, and $10-students, which does not include a $2 surcharge from Select-A-Seat. For reservations contact Select-A-Seat at (806) 770-2000. …."Always...Patsy Cline" - More than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963, the show is based on a true story about Cline’s (Terri Caldwell) friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger (Jane Prince-Jones), who befriended the star in a Texas honky tonk in l961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The musical play, complete with down home humor, true emotion and audience participation, includes Patsy's unforgettable hits "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", "Sweet Dreams" and "Walkin' After Midnight"…27 songs in all! The show’s title was inspired by Cline's letters to Seger, which were consistently signed "Love ALWAYS... Patsy Cline.” Featuring Terri Caldwell and Jane Prince-Jones. Tickets: $25. SATURDAY Only

March 27….3rd Annual Lubbock Open Scholastic Chess Championship - A USCF rated Individual and Team Scholastic Championship. Games are played in five sections: Primary (K-2), Elementary (K-5), Middle School (K-8), High School (K-12) and Novice section K-8 (no USCF membership required). There is a total of 30 minutes maximum per player per game. Entry Fees: $15 received by 3/26, or on site $20. A valid USCF membership required in all sections, except Novice K-8. It can be obtained at www.uschess.org or onsite on 3/27 until 10 a.m. Prizes: Trophies for top 6 finishers and top 3 school teams in each section. Team prizes are based on the top 3 individual scores from the same school or same club within the same section. Also special trophy for top sibling, top parent/child and top coach/student teams. Special valuable chess prizes to the top overall finisher and top girl in each section sponsored by the Susan Polgar Foundation! Prize-giving ceremony will be held shortly after the end of the last game which is around 4 p.m. Chess boards and sets will be provided. Bring a chess clock if you have one. March 27….Hodges Community Center 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt
- Grab your lil' hunters and come have some fun. Over 10,000 eggs will be hidden throughout the beautiful Lubbock Memorial Arboretum. Ten prize golden eggs will also be hidden with the lucky finder winning a prize Easter basket! The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures, too! Don't forget to stop by for some face-painting and games before the hunt gets started! Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, 4111 University; Festivities begin at 10 a.m.; hunt begins at 11 a.m.

March 27….1950s Spring Family Sock Hop - Hey there, all you hip cats! The Buddy Holly Center will be having a '50s style Spring Family Sock Hop. Come dressed in your best '50s style threads, if you have them; if not, come dressed as you are. Parents come with your kids and learn the coolest dances and slang of this decade. Don’t be a square or a party pooper, sign up today! Class limit of 25. Families of all ages are welcome. Cost: $3 per pair or $2 per individual. March 27….Live Roller Derby - Join the West Texas Roller Dollz (WTRD) as they present their first bout of the season! This double-header will showcase the hard hits and fast action of 4 teams (WTRD vs Juggernauts; Rumble Weeds vs Randall County). Tickets are $10 for adults; kids 12 and under free. Tickets are $12 day of the event. WTRD is a family-friendly group and encourage all ages to attend. The event is open to the public and will offer a concession and full bar for those 21 and over. March 28….First United Methodist Chuch Vesper Concert
- This will be a special Palm Sunday screening of Cecil B. DeMille's epic silent movie, King of Kings. Internationally acclaimed organist, David Briggs, will provide live, dramatic musical accompaniment for this classic film in the great tradition of the silent movies. Deadline Nearing for Vendor Spaces

Kid’s Fun Fair 2010 allows business owners, parents and their kids the opportunity to learn about the services and products available in our community in a lively, energetic environment. Vendors who have participated in the past include pre-schools, camps, private schools, churches, children’s party entertainment services, health professionals and a variety of family-friendly businesses.

The fair will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 1 with entertainment in the form of clowns, children’s performance groups and will include some new surprises for those who've attended our events in the past!

Confirmed vendors thus far include: Bodyworks, Cookies By Design, Lubbock Karate, Hub Performing Arts, SPICE (Chess Club), The Bair Foundation, GAMES2U, Lubbock Lake Landmark, Main Event, Mathnasium, Griswold Special Care, YWCA, Dyslexia Correction Center, KTXT, Lubbock Parks and Recreation, Barbara Worth (Mary Kay), Seeking Sitters, Family Vision Center, Battlefield Live, Robert Spence Agency, La Bebe Cottage and Princess Tea Room, The Parenting Cottage, and Lil' Footprints...with lots more vendors still to be confirmed for the show.
