August 14 (last performance is next Saturday, August 22)….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals Production: “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story”- The music of Buddy Holly has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world and this show tells the story of the tragically short life of Buddy Holly, who along with high-school friends the Crickets, turned country music upside down to create some of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs ever written. We share Buddy’s frustrations through his first recording contract; the excitement America felt when "That’ll Be The Day" hit #1; his naïve determination to be the first white act to play the Apollo Theatre in Harlem; his whirlwind romance and marriage to Maria Elena; concluding with the ill-fated ‘Winter Dance Party’ tour of the Midwest. Don’t miss out, this is your chance to see Buddy sing his way through two hours of the best rock ‘n’ roll you’ll ever hear! As a special treat, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals has cast Dean Elliott and Matthew Wycliffe, professional actors who have played the role of Buddy Holly in London’s West End, to reprise the role in Lubbock. Tickets available at all Select-a-Seat outlets or by calling (806) 770-2000 or 1-800-735-1288. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.selectaseatlubbock.com. FRIDAY and SATURDAY

August 14, 15….”Driving Miss Daisy” - A Pulitzer prize-winning play by Alfred Uhry, directed and starring as Daisy Werthan is Cactus alum Jane Prince Jones. She is joined by the incomparable Floyd Price in the part of Hoke. The part of Boolie, Daisy's son is superbly portrayed by David Weaver. A moving series of scenes span a thirty year friendship between two most unlikely people in the South, pulling at your emotions, making you laugh, cry, and love these characters and leave the theatre wanting more. This is a comedy-drama suitable for all ages. Tickets $25. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave; 7:30 p.m.

August 14, 15
(also repeats August 21, 22)…."The Education of Angels" – The C.A.T.S. Playhouse presents a comedy by Matthew Carlin and directed by Tim McIntire in which two unlikely characters are thrown together in this hilarious and somewhat whimsical tale of two angels in training. Nick and Jenna are sent back to Earth to help Dave, who is having "cold-feet" on the day of his wedding. The resolution is circuitous and definitely poignant, as the three bumble their way into a happy ending. Toss in an "angelic" New York cabbie as transportation from heaven, a domineering ex-wife who has remarried, but believes that Dave shouldn't, a kindly minister, a daughter and the fact that not everyone can see the angels......and comedic situations ensue. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children/seniors/students. C.A.T.S. Playhouse, 2405 34th Street; 7:30 p.m.

August 14, 15…."Some Girls” - Hub Theatre Group will present Neil LaBute's “Some Girls.” A man, about to be married, goes from city to city meeting four women from his past in an effort to address the unfinished emotional business he has with each of them. Neil LaBute's incisive and often uncomfortable view of modern relationships explores the boundaries of pain and redemption. This play will be directed by Bob Chanda with a stellar young cast. New York, the city that never sleeps. From the news seller to the chorus girl, from the gambler to the missionary - all of them caught up in the teeming vitality of the city streets. All the hot gamblers are in town, and they're all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week's incarnation of "The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York"; the only problem is, he needs $1000 to get the place. Throw in Sarah Brown, who's short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan's $1000 bet that he can't get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; Police Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time; and the music/lyrics of Frank Loesser, and you've got quite a musical. Singled Out? New Singles Group Planned for Mid-30s to Late-40s

We have had a growing number of inquiries regarding a need for an adult singles group positioned for this age group.....and we need YOUR input to bring it all together! Our existing singles group - the "SOS" bunch - has evolved into a 50+ demographic...so we know there's an opportunity to create a new branch on the "singles tree" and we we'd like to hear more from you out there to determine how to bring this effort together for a successful launch in the very near future.

So...if you have an interest in being part of a singles group from the mid-30s to late-40s, please drop us a line using the email links directly below this box so we can hear your ideas and interest level!

Thanks for your help and encouragement to continually grow the Lubbock Fun Club so that it can evolve and meet some important needs. After all, we are about community and people!
