October 2…. Vino Festivo – Lubbock’s premier Art, Wine and Food Festival hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock. View art, participate in a live auction, giveaways, and taste an array of food presented by premier Lubbock restaurants, and wine from Caprock Winery. Tickets are limited and are now on sale: $40 single ticket / $75 couple. Sponsorships and tables are also available. October 2….SOS Monthly Dinner – The Lubbock Fun Club singles group will be getting together for a meal, fun and fellowship. All singles are encouraged to come join the fun! No reservations needed...just come and enjoy! Meet at the original location of Orlando’s Italian Restaurant, 2402 Ave. Q; 7 p.m.

October 3….First Friday Art Trail -
See the regular art venues, plus the exciting new monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treaure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and who will help you navigate FFAT with ease! For a complete list of participating venues and additional info, click HERE! Event runs from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. throughout the downtown and Depot District area.

October 3….The Cactus Old Time Southern Gospel Sing: Part 2 -
The Cactus Theater is hosting another Old Time Southern Gospel Sing, featuring the harmony of 4Heavensake, Lon Sitton, The Watchmen, Jerry Newman, Tim McKenzie, Lone Prarie and other special guests. October 3-4….Wolfforth Fall Book Sale - Friends of the Wolfforth Library are holding their fall book sale on Friday and Saturday for the general public. There will be a member preview on Thursday evening Oct 2nd from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. For more information call 806-866- 9380. Wolfforth Library, 508-E Highway 62/82, Wolfforth. Hours: Friday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

October 3-5….Lubbock Community Theatre production of "The Crucible" -
An American theatre classic by Arthur Miller, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award. "The Crucible" presents the horrors of the Puritanical witch purges of Old Salem, while also presenting a timely parable of our contemporary society. Directed by Richard Privitt. Rating: Drama PG13. Boston Avenue Playhouse, 4230 Boston Ave; Friday and Saturdays, 8 pm. and Sundays, 2 p.m.

October 4….2008 Arthritis Expo –
Johnny Bench, baseball Hall of Fame member will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are free but advance registration in requested (call 442-6653). A free lunch will be provided for the first 200 people registered. Science Spectrum, 2579 S Loop 289; 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

October 4….31st Annual Golden Spur - National Golden Spur Award Dinner, this year recognizing the achievements of Bob Moorhouse of Seymour. The honor will be bestowed in recognition of his contributions to the livestock and ranch. Tickets available from the Ranching Heritage Association are $50 each, with reserved tables for six priced at $650 and tables for eight $1,000. Call Tim Bynum at (806) 742-0498 to make reservations. Your ticket includes dinner followed by a reception witht he honoree and silent auction. Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane; 6 p.m.

October 4….The Rifters in Concert - The Rifters play a blend of Americana music that comes from both the high desert and mountain landscape. Their music is sort of a laid back, high energy, gentle giant, folk, blues shake-a-leg sort of thing. Impeccable musicianship along with three and four part vocal arrangements is the perfect combination that makes them a crowd-pleasing experience. Featuring bandmembers Steve Garry (lead guitar, vocals), Rod Taylor (guitar, vocals, and mandolin), Don Richmond (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, pedal steel guitar, guitar, harmonica and vocals) Jim Bradley (bass guitar and vocals) & special guest Jana Yates Stout. October 4-5….29th Annual Miniaturists of Lubbock Exhibit and Sale -
Admission: adults $2.00 and children $1.00. Proceeds donated to South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Toys for Tots. Lubbock Garden and Arts Center, 4215 University Ave. Saturday hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

October 5….LYSO Fall Concert -

October 10….Lesley Sawyer in Concert -
Lesley has long been a Cactus favorite and she is back again to showcase her gorgeous voice and unique personality. October 19….St. Joseph's 39th Annual Sausage Festival - Serving German sausage, smoked chicken, warm German potato salad, sauerkraut, bread, pickles, dessert, and drink. There will be a quilt show, quilt raffles, cedar chest (filled with goodies) raffle, bingo, games for the kids, live auction, large silent auction, and a German country store with homemade canned goods and sweets. German sausage will be sold by-the-pound on Saturday, the day before the festival. There will also be jalapeno sausage for sale on Saturday that always sells out if you don't get there early. Sale starts at 8 a.m. Saturday morning where you can buy homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and breakfast burritos. St. Joseph's Hall on 21st and Division Streets, Slaton, Texas; 11 a.m.

October 23-25....Broadway Production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" - In this Tony Award-winning new musical comedy, six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grow-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything. This tuneful, offbeat and at times heartwarming show offers audience members the opportunity (strictly voluntary) to become part of the action as on-stage spellers. For tickets call (800)- 784-9494. City Bank Auditorium, 2720 Drive of Champions, 7:30 p.m. plus a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
