August 28....Summer Showcase Concert Series - The next-to-last show of the season features Mike Pritchard's Blue Thunder & The Lightning Horns. Free admission; Buddy Holly Center Courtyard, located at the corner of 19th Street and Crickets Avenue; 5:30-7:30 p.m.

August 28.... Children's Advocacy Center Fundraiser - For 10 years, the Children’s Advocacy Center has worked to bring together community resources to speed the healing of child victims of abuse and trauma. Be a part of the healing process by attending the Diamond Anniversary celebration. It will be a black tie affair...recreating Manhattan’s famous Rainbow Room with both a silent and live auction and tasteful creations by Chef Leigh Kiselis. Reserve seat tickets $75 per person, available at Skyviews Restaurant or by calling Judy at 806-740-0251. Seating for this event is limited. All proceeds benefit children served by the Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains; Skyviews Restaurant, 6th floor, 19th and University, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.

August 28....Thursday Night Arts at LUHCA - As always, new ideas, inspiring workshops and informative discussions on everything from architecture to gender to contemporary film influences are always welcome. These evenings are "think tanks" to heal the body and brain after a long week. Take some time to stop and paint the roses. $5 for the night and members are free.
Programs tonite include:

Salsa Lessons - Take one last dip into these hot salsa steps before you venture out on your own. Dress comfortably and wear some dancing shoes. (TNA nights are $5 if you keep movin’ after your first class); meets in the main building at 511 Ave. K.
U.F.O. Underground Film Operative in the Firehouse Theatre – Alfred Hitchcock cinema with wine and cheese tasting during intermission. The only musical Alfred Hitchock ever made, "Waltzes from Vienna" (80 min.) is based on the life of Johann Strauss. It features Oscar-winning actor Edmund Gwenn, Jessie Matthews, and Fay Compton. August 29....A Tribute to The Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett - Summer’s ending! For all you Parrotheads, the surf‘s up in West Texas. Hang ten for a tribute to the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet. Tropical attire is advised and the best one gets a prize. Don’t forget to stop by “Margaritaville” in the lobby and pick up a margarita. Get in your hot rod and close out the summer with a splash. August 29 - 30...."Oz, The Musical" - An original musical by Todrick D. Hall. Todrick is a native of Plainview and studied at Ballet Lubbock. He recently performed in The Color Purple on Broadway. One hundred area kids are in this fun musical based on L. Frank Baum's classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, along with some familiar faces from American Idol, including Mikalah Gordon, Vonzell Solomon, Rickey Smith and Scott Savol. September 4-7....20th Anniversary of The National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration - Over 100 performers & participants including cowboy and cowgirl poets, western musicians, storytellers, panelists, cooks and special presenters will be featured at this 20th annual event. Its purpose remains to celebrate, preserve and pass along our western heritage and cowboy culture. Featured nationally-recognized artists this year are Sons of the San Joaquin, Don Edwards and Waddie Mitchell. This annual event also includes the American Cowboy Cultural Awards Banquet and the National Championship Chuck Wagon Cook-Off and Youth Cook-Off Contest. September 6….Hub Performing Arts School Fall Show Auditions – Kids ages 5 through 18 are encouraged to audition for "The Wizard of Oz" to be performed December 5 & 6 and "Henry and Romona" to be performed early January. Auditioners should prepare a short monologue and song. Auditions are come and go on Saturday and callbacks will be held Sunday, September 7th, 2-5 p.m. More information about auditions can be found at www.hubperformingarts.com. September 16….Lubbock (Ice) Skating School Fall Session Begins -
