May 15....Singles Coffee & Conversation -
Join the Lubbock Fun Club singles group for a special activity - learning about the art of attracting a romantic partner – "flirting". Dr. Waldren, a family therapist and owner of The Waldren Group will facilitate participants pairing with a new person to meet and get acquainted. Each person will then introduce their partner to the group and briefly share topics he/she would like to discuss about flirting. Dr. Waldren will then show video segments on flirting - with the goal of learning to meet someone who also "signaled" they want to meet you. The remainder of the program will focus on participants asking questions and sharing their experiences. If you would like to order coffee or a coffee specialty drink, please come at 6:30; Porchlight Coffeehouse, 34th & Flint, 7 p.m.

May 16-18....Lubbock Community Theatre: "Same Time, Next Year" - One of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, ran four years on Broadway, was a successful motion picture and remains one of the most widely-produced plays in history. It follows a love affair between people who rendezvous once a year. Twenty five years of manners, morals and attitudes are hilariously mirrored by the lovers. Directed by Joseph Ginnane; Firehouse Theatre, Louise H. Underwood Center, 511 Avenue K; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday night and 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

May 16....D'Venue's 1 Year Anniversary Celebration - A great night of dinner and dancing! Doors open at 7 p.m. for a catered dinner. There will be general dancing until the start of the show at 8:30 p.m. There will be a total of 10 presentations followed by more dancing until midnight! The cost is only $20 per ticket, and if you buy 5 you get the 6th free. May 16....“Make A Wish Cactus Style” - A concert featuring area musicians who have joined together with the Cactus Theater & Make A Wish Foundation of the South Plains. Proceeds from the concert will provide solely for granting “wishes” for South Plains Children with life threatening illnesses. Music will include local artists like Kenny Maines, Doctors & Their Guitars, Junior Vasquez, Jay Horton, & Sarah Ballard. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from The Cactus Theater 747-7047, Make A Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains 785-9474, Paula Wims 438-1935, or other volunteers; Cactus Theatre, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave, 7:30 p.m.

May 17....2008 Lubbock Arthritis Walk - Fundraiser held to raise awareness and money to fight arthritis. For more information contact Julie Dominguez at (806)-783-8829 or jdominguez@teamumc.com. May 17.... Hearts and Hooves of Lubbock - Fundraiser that will offer pictures with a mini for a $5 donation. T-shirts, raffle tickets for two tickets anywhere Southwest Airlines flies, and Jollyeo fund bracelets will also be for sale; Market Street, 4205 98th, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

May 17.....Annual Gala Fundraiser for the National Ranching Heritage Center - Spend an evening "Under The Tuscan Moon" with an Italian theme, decorations, menu and activities. Tickets required in advance from Robin Gilliam-Crawford at (806) 742-0498. Tickets $75 each or $1,000 for a table for 8. Highlights include: Silent Auction features a new "But It Now" price option to speed check-out time. Money Tree Raffle with hundreds of retail, entertainment and restaurant gift cards. A $10 raffle ticket can win them all. Three Coins in the Fountain activity to win a nice prize. Italian dinner by L.E. Anderson with menu by Idris Traylor, Linda Malouf Walter and Steve Almond. May 17....Sheena Fadeyi presents the music of Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin - Lubbock’s own Sheena Fadeyi has returned from a four year run as the lead vocalist at Six Flags Over Texas while going to college in Arlington. She has graduated and is spending some time in Lubbock preparing to further pursue her career as a recording artist. If you have heard Sheena’s beautiful voice...you know this will be a concert to remember. If you haven’t, you deserve to treat yourself to the sheer pleasure! May 19....Girl’s Night Out - Ladies, this special evening is just for you! A fantastic group of guys are getting together to put on a show that you are going to love. The velvet voice of Brandon Gwinn, the soulful Jeff McCreight, the multi-talented Billy McClaran, and exciting newcomer Engelo Charles will be there to make sure you have a rockin' great time! Even the “Sax Man” will be there to join in the fun. Grab your girlfriends, enjoy complimentary wine and cheese, let your hair down. June 7....2nd Annual Vintage Township Posh Pooch Pageant - A free event to celebrate our four-legged friends and enjoy an amazing day of fun with your dog. A number of local companies will be out to pamper pets with a pet-i-cure palace, gourmet treats, dog fashions and even an ask-the-veterinarian booth. The Lubbock Humane Society, the Heart of the Plains Kennel Club and the Lubbock Police K-9 unit are lined up for agility and police demonstrations, as well as a showcase of dogs available for adoption.
