- Mixing social networking with philanthropy, South Plains Mall is joining 65 sister shopping centers across the country to create more than 30,000 wellness bags for women cancer patients nationwide in a single day. Women – including mothers and daughters – are invited to help create these wellness bags, which will be distributed locally to female cancer patients through Komen for the Cure and local cancer centers just in time for Mother’s Day. May 9-11....Lubbock Community Theatre: "Same Time, Next Year" - One of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, ran four years on Broadway, was a successful motion picture, and remains one of the most widely produced plays in history. It follows a love affair between people who rendezvous once a year. Twenty five years of manners, morals and attitudes are hilariously mirrored by the lovers. May 10....Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis - Annual fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. Taking steps to cure cystic fibrosis (CF) goes a long way toward making a difference in the lives of those with CF. Last year, the Lubbock Great Strides walk raised $26,526. May 10....Bluegrass CD Release Party with Spring Creek and No Limit - No Limit was formed in the spring of 2007 when Leah Perry had the idea to combine members of two then-existing bands: The Perry Family and Wire & Wood. No Limit plays traditional as well as “new” bluegrass, folk and old style country, plus they have original material and gospel music to share. Spring Creek, the fastest-rising young band in the West, is taking the bluegrass festival circuit by storm. Spring Creek built their foundation on a mastery of the fundamentals of classic bluegrass, yet they create their own contemporary style with a youthful, energetic feel. The winner of the Telluride and Rockgrass festivals in 2007, this Lyons, Colorado quartet play a mix of bluegrass standards and compelling originals, and all four musicians are accomplished lead and harmony vocalists. All About?

Folks...you read here occasionally about this wacky-sounding game we promote called "Pickleball." It does sound like a funny name...but it's a blast to play...for folks of all ages, genders and skill levels (or not). And, interestingly enough, we (Steph and Shane, your LFC hosts) will be teaching classes through the Parks and Rec summer program starting this next week! If you are interested, here is what the summer schedule looks like:

First session: May 13, 20, 27 (Tuesdays) at 7:30 - 8:30 p.m; Cost $24

Second session: June 3, 10, 17 (Tuesdays) at 7:30 - 8:30 p.m; Cost $24

May 15....Singles Coffee and Conversation - Join the Lubbock Fun Club singles group for a special activity - learning about the art of attracting a romantic partner –"flirting". Dr. Waldren, a family therapist and owner of The Waldren Group will facilitate participants pairing with a new person to meet and get acquainted with. Each person will then introduce their partner to the group, and briefly share topics he/she would like to discuss about flirting. Dr. Waldren will then show video segments on flirting - with the goal of learning to meet someone who also "signaled" they want to meet you. The remainder of the program will focus on participants asking questions and sharing their experiences with flirting.
