March 27...."Kites For Kids" -
Kids can celebrate the windy season by making and decorating their very own kite. Materials will be provided. Space is limited. Pick up your free admission ticket at the door. Age 5 and up. For more information, call 767-3733; Groves Branch Library, 5520 19th Street, 4 p.m.

March 27....Free Screening of Oscar-winning Film 'La Vie en Rose' - Admission is free and memberships to the Caprock Film Society will be available to all. This film, starring Oscar-winner Marianne Cotillard, never showed in Lubbock area theaters. Popcorn is free and Cap*Rock Winery, for those of age, will provide tastes of their finest. Water and soft drinks will be available too! For more info see www.caprockfilm.com. Showing takes place at Hi-Fidelity on 82nd and Slide Road (west of Lowe's supermarket); 7:30 p.m.

March 28....Ballet Lubbock 2nd Annual Gala: "Prelude to the Dance" - Join Ballet Lubbock as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Artistic Director Yvonne Racz! Gala tickets are available through Ballet Lubbock and all proceeds benefit non-profit programs, including scholarships, outreach classes, performances and more. Support these many worthy programs while dancing to the music of Element, and enjoy a performance by the Ballet Lubbock Company. March 28-29…."Dearly Beloved" - In this delightful play havoc erupts in the small town of Fayro, Texas. Unfortunately, a bride and groom are missing and the rumor mill is working overtime. Best-laid plans unravel as hot flashes, even hotter tempers and long-held grudges between the sisters begin to surface. The bride’s mother and feuding aunts have to pull together to find ways to keep unsuspecting guests in their pews while a highway patrolman attempts to track down the couple. Directed by Stan Tucker, the cast includes Beth Bass, Christie Bradshaw, Karen Dolter, Whitney Garrity, Christy Morris, Mitzi Ravenscraft, Derek Thomas, Stan Tucker, Ric Walton and Blair Wilson. Tickets are $12 per person, $8 for children 12 and under, group rates available. March 28-29...."Father’s Little Surprise" - Original play written by Jane Prince-Jones. Produced by Don Caldwell. If you enjoyed the Cactus Production of “Father of the Bride”, you’ll love “Father’s Little Surprise”. Fun and zaniness combine to offer a feel-good, family-friendly night of pure comedy. Starring Jane Prince-Jones, Mike Morgan, Cami Caldwell, James Cutreris, Madeline Powell, Sam Lindsey and Kurt Kiser. Reserved tickets $20.00; Cactus Theatre,1812 Buddy Holly Avenue. 8:00 p.m.

March 29....Kids Summer Fun Fair - Produced by the Lubbock Fun Club, this daylong event brings together leading community businesses and organizations offering special events, activities, day camps, classes and summer programs for kids...ALL UNDER ONE ROOF! You’ll discover a wide range of vendors offering their services and special programs....with discounts and incentives for early summer sign-ups. Plus....there’ll be hourly drawings, great door prizes (including a $100 gift card to Meyers-Farrar Jewelers), a kids activity area outside...special surprises and lots of fun for all attending!
Plan now for summer, meet vendors, take advantage of early sign-up opportunities and get the best times and spaces available before they fill up! There'll be fun stuff for parents and kids alike - including artist demonstrations, animal shows courtesy of the Science Spectrum, live music, children's actors showing their talents....and a casual atmosphere that's fun for all! March 31 - April 6…. Raider Red’s One-Act Play Spectacular - An evening of original works by Texas Tech students - directed, designed and performed by Tech students. Tickets are $10. (806) 742-3603; Lab Theatre at TTU campus, 18th Street between Boston and Flint Avenues. Performance times for March 31 –April 5 are 8 p.m.; Matinee on April 6 is slated for 2 p.m.

April 2....Book Signing by Governor Rick Perry - The Governor will be signing copies of his new book "On My Honor"; Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 6707 Slide Road, 5:30 p.m.

April 3....Monthly SOS (Singles Only Stuff) Dinner - Beef O' Brady's, 5510 4th Street, 7 p.m.

April 4-6, 11-13, 18-20....Lubbock Community Theatre's Production of "Laundry & Bourbon" / "Lone Star" - In "Laundry and Bourbon," 3 small town Texas women fold laundry, sip bourbon and gossip about the many open secrets that are so much a part of small town life. "Lone Star" shows us the men in their lives and how the Vietnam War has affected them, their relationships with their wives and each other; Boston Avenue Playhouse, 4230 Boston Ave., 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

April 12....The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra performance of "Jazz in the City" - This concert is one night only and will feature the sizzling sounds of the Grammy Award winning ensemble, New York Voices. Single ticket prices for Jazz in the City are $50, $40 and $25 for Adults and $40, $30 and $20 for Students. City Bank Auditorium, 4th Street and Drive of Champions, 8 p.m.

April 17-20....30th Annual Lubbock Arts Festival - The largest fine art, fine craft event in West Texas with attendance expected to exceed 20,000 this year. The visual art division of the Lubbock Arts Festival includes 100 artists from around the nation in booths displaying and selling original work in the mediums of painting, drawing, pottery, fiber, jewelry, glass, wood, and sculpture. Audiences can enjoy such diverse offerings as brass bands, cowboy poets, string quartets from Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra, and high stepping Irish/Celtic dancers. Premiere night is Thursday, April 17th...special tickets required.
