March 13....Skyviews Spring Wine Dinner, "A Night of Elegance" -
Annual senior project wine dinner produced by Texas Tech University students with live jazz music by Manny Rodriguez. For reservations call (806) 744-7462. Event takes place at Skyviews restaurant, located on the 6th floor of the Bank of America Building, 19th and University, 5:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

March 13....SOS Private Roller Skating Party - Lubbock Fun Club's very own singles group has rented the building for the night! Only $5 per person (includes skate rental). Be sure to bring your own water, tea, or soft drink! Roll Arena, 7340 19th Street. Event takes place from 7-9 p.m.


FRIDAY and SATURDAY

March 14 and 15...."Father’s Little Surprise" - Original play written by Jane Prince-Jones! If you enjoyed the Cactus Production of “Father of the Bride” you’ll love “Father’s Little Surprise”. Jane’s ability as a comedic actress is unparalleled and this writing debut will testify to her magnificent artistic depth. Fun and zaniness combine to offer a feel-good, family-friendly night of pure comedy. Starring Jane Prince-Jones, Mike Morgan, Cami Caldwell, James Cutreris, Madeline Powell, Sam Lindsey and Kurt Kiser as Franck’s brother “Hanck”. Reserved tickets $20.00; Cactus Theatre,1812 Buddy Holly Avenue. 8:00 p.m.

March 14 and 15....14th Annual Viva Aztlan Festival - This event will bring into Lubbock some 20 Ballet Folkloricos from all over Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Chicago and even Mexico to compete for awards. A 15 piece Mariachi group from El Paso is scheduled for a concert on March 14; Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre, 1501 Mac Davis Lane, Admission before 5 p.m. $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students; after 5 p.m. $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, free for age 5 and younger. FRIDAY through SUNDAY

March 14-16...."Wonder of the World" - Staged by Lubbock Community Theatre. This wacky but genuine black comedy follows Cass, a disillusioned wife but determined believer in destiny, as she flees to Niagara Falls in a frantic search for the life she fears she missed out on. This hilarious but moving journey of self-discovery has Cass crossing paths with a variety of eccentric characters as she successfully checks items off her ludicrous list of “things to do in life” but still somehow leads her treacherously close to the water’s edge; The Boston Avenue Playhouse, 4230 Boston Avenue, 8 p.m.Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.


SATURDAY

March 15....Six Centennial Easter Egg Hunts (All Over Town!) - The event begins at 10:00 a.m. with free photos with the Easter Bunny for an hour, and then at 11:00 a.m. stand back as sirens sound the start of Lubbock’s most spectacular Easter Egg Hunt in its 100-year history! Over 50,000 Easter eggs will be divided between the six sites with an additional ten golden eggs for each hunt. Each child who finds one of these golden eggs will receive a special Easter basket filled with goodies and toys. Youth will be divided into two age groups, one for younger children ages four years old and under and one for older youth ages five years old and above. The Easter Egg Hunts will be located at six city parks and held simultaneously throughout the city at the sites listed below. In case of inclement weather, alternate sites have been arranged and an announcement will go out 24 hours in advance should the Easter egg hunts need to be moved indoors; Hodges Community Center in Clapp Park - 41st Street and University Avenue, Rawlings Community Center and Park - 213 40th Street, Simmons Community Center and Park - East 23rd Street and Oak Avenue, Maggie Trejo Supercenter in Rodgers Park - 3200 Amherst Street, Kastman Park (by the pavilion) – Joliet Avenue and South Loop 289, Legacy Play Village in McAlister Park at Milwaukee Avenue and Marsha Sharp Freeway, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

March 15....Spring Break Rolling Trains - The Lubbock Model Railroad Association will have trains running at the Godeke Branch Library, 66th and Quaker, during regular library hours. (Note...trains will also be running at this same location Monday through next Thursday, too).

March 29....Kids Summer Fun Fair - Produced by the Lubbock Fun Club, this daylong event will bring together leading community businesses and organizations offering special events, activities, day camps, classes and summer programs for kids...ALL UNDER ONE ROOF! You’ll discover a wide range of vendors offering their services and special programs....many with discounts and incentives for early summer sign-ups. Plus....there’ll be hourly drawings, door prizes, a kids activity area outside...lots of special surprises and lots of fun for all attending! Plan now for summer fun, meet vendors, take advantage of early sign-up opportunities and get the best times and spaces available before they fill up! There'll be fun stuff for parents and kids alike - including artisan demonstrations, animal shows courtesy of the Science Spectrum, live music by instructors, children's actors showing their talents....and a casual festival-like atmosphere that's fun for all! This is a FREE event. Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center, 4215 University; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

April 3-6....66th Annual ABC Rodeo - This annual favorite will be held on Thursday Apilr 3rd, Friday April 4th and two shows on Saturday April 5th. The evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. and the Saturday matinee will be held at 1:30 p.m. The ABC Rodeo has teamed with Tuff Hedeman's CBR to present an added event on SUNDAY, Aprl 6th at 2:00 p.m. Reserved and General admission tickets are on sale along with a special combo ticket that provides admission to both the rodeo and the CBR event at a discount. Music fans - Friday night after the rode, see Jason Meadows live in concert. Reserved Tickets are available at all SELECT-A-SEAT locations. General admission tickets are available at area western wear stores.

April 16....30th Annual Lubbock Arts Festival - The largest fine art, fine craft event in West Texas with attendance expected to exceed 20,000 this year. The visual art division of the Lubbock Arts Festival includes 100 artists from around the nation in booths displaying and selling original work in the mediums of painting, drawing, pottery, fiber, jewelry, glass, wood, and sculpture. Audiences can enjoy such diverse offerings as brass bands, cowboy poets, string quartets from Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra, and high stepping Irish/Celtic dancers. Hours of the event are Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th from 10 a.m - 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 20th, 12 p.m.-5 p.m..
