Our FEATURED Weekend Attractions...

FRIDAY NIGHT

August 24 - 32nd Annual Texas Boys Ranch Telethon - "Live" at the Louise Underwood Center for the Arts (Note: new venue for 2007!); the event will also be broadcast on KAMC, local channel 28 (cable channel 8); the station's anchorwoman, Karla Leslie, will return as celebrity hostess; entertainment will be presented from across the musical spectrum...as coordinated by Tim McKenzie There will be door prizes and a silent auction to raise proceeds, as well. This year's goal: $150,000 cash, plus gifts-in-kind; event takes place 7 p.m. to midnight. The public is welcome (and encouraged!) to come by and participate at the Louise Underwood Center for the Arts located at 511 Ave. K, across the street (to the northeast) from the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.


SATURDAY NIGHT

August 25....Hub City Beach Party is a fun event to raise money for Foster*A*Life (formerly Foster Dreams) which is a non-profit agency that grants dreams to foster children. Featured entertainment for the event - The Landsharks - are a Florida-based Jimmy Buffet tribute band and they have a fun-filled show! The event will also have fun games such as hula hoop and limbo contests, the bimini ring game and more! Another featured event is a treasure hunt called The Lost Shaker of Salt. This contest has gift certificates, a night at the Inn of the Mountain Gods (in Ruidoso, NM), rounds of golf, and many more prizes...including a drawing for 2 tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies. Doors open at 2:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. there is a double-elimination "guitar hero" contest. Landsharks concert starts at 7:00. Event ends at 11:00 p.m. A variety of foods and drinks will be available. Tickets are on sale at all Select-A-Seat locations for $15 or at the Foster*A*Life office. Tickets will be $20 at the gate on the day of the event. Group rate of $13 for 10 or more tickets. The group rate is available only at the Foster*A*Life office. Call 792-3181 for more information. This fundraising party takes place at The Lone Star Events Center (formerly the Canyon Amphitheater), 602 E. 19th Street, Lubbock.

Finding the FUN...For a Good Cause

Many years ago, songwriting genius Roger Miller came up with one of the most clever song titles ever written when he composed "The Last Word in Lonesome Is Me" - so it brings to mind the following:

Have you ever realized that the FIRST word in fundraising is FUN?

Most of us simply see the word FUND at the beginning of the word.....but really, many events revolve around some form of fun activity. At most fundraisers, people come together for an event which may include music, food, biking, dancing, or many other forms of entertainment. Most importantly....the money raised through such an event can bring joy and relief to the lives of both those who give it and those who receive it. I have been involved in many fundraisers over the years and can tell you that my family has benefitted personally...especially in the areas of cancer and cystic fibrosis.

You may have seen more fundraising events promoted on our website lately... because we strongly believe in the community coming together to make a difference in the lives of others. All of us will at one time in our lives either need a little help or know someone who does. So....we encourage you to join in the FUN that these events provide...and that make someone's life a little easier.
