Tonight!

Thursday, August 16 - 30-Year Anniversary Concert Tribute to Elvis...starring Dallas-based performer Kraig Parker (no relation to the Colonel). Hailed as the best tribute artist in the entertainment business by many, this show plays Lubbock exactly thirty years to the day of the passing of Elvis Presley. Featuring a 10-piece full orchestra billed as The Royal Tribute Band, this high-energy band packs power, professionalism and persona into a nearly two-hour concert experience. [Editors note: the promoter tells me that the band prominently features Lubbock businesswoman LaDonna Goodwin on backing vocals...so this should be a treat in itself.] Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theater, 1501 Mac Davis Lane (formerly 6th Street). Tickets priced at $21.00 - $25.00 available through Select-A-Seat (www.selectaseatlubbock.com) or by calling 770-2000.

Makin' Tracks...in the FUN BUG!

The big news at Lubbock Fun Club headquarters this week was the addition of a bright yellow Volkswagen Beetle...and, thanks to our LFC buddy Michael B, she's already got a name...the "Fun Bug!"

This cool little ride will provide Steph with "official wheels" for the LFC as she scoots around town making new friends and working with our advertisers who support this site for everyone. Right now, the "Fun Bug" is solid yellow...bright and fun like the gal behind the wheel...but soon the car will sport some distinctly decorative graphics that'll let you know it's DEFINITELY the rolling icon of this community club. We're excited about it! Steph's very first car was a "love bug" and she had lots of fun with it...so it was the only logical choice when choosing a "fun" car for this new venture. Look for it around town and give Steph a wave when you see her coming your way.

We'd like to publicly thank Gary Warren, Dan Isch, and the whole team at Pioneer Lincoln-Mercury for helping us bring the "Fun Bug" home. She's small...but she's gonna be a big part of the Lubbock Fun Club, that's for sure.

A LOOK AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK...

A Chance to Contribute: Bikers Passing Thru for Fundraiser

Monday, August 20 - Last year, the American Legion Riders and their extension, the Pony Express, gathered donations nationwide for their Legacy Scholarship Fund. This fund represents a legacy to the children of war dead...as an effort to take on some of the responsibility of our fallen heroes. Riders will be coming in from all over the U.S. bringing donations they have raised in their communities. The group will be coming thru Lubbock at mid-day Monday (dependent on weather, motorcycle health, riders, etc). Local rider Steve "Shooter" Brooks will be joining them along with several day riders at the local rendezvous point where the group will receive donations from the public. After this "gas and grub" stop, the local group will continue with the riders on their trek toward Reno, NV - the collection point for this nationwide scholarship effort. If you, or someone you know, would like to donate to this scholarship fundraiser for children, please meet the riders at the Chisum Travel Center just outside the loop on the Slaton Hwy (U.S. Hwy. 84) to make your donation at approximately 2:00 - 2:30 p.m.

Curtain Call: Remembering the King

Thirty years ago today, the king of rock 'n' roll left the building...Graceland... for the last time.

After a morning game of racquetball, Elvis Presley took a seat at his baby grand piano and performed a medley of songs. Can you name the very last song he sang? Hint: It was the 1975 breakthrough hit for Texas legend Willie Nelson. Click here to go to the Fun Club homepage for the answer!
