BYE BYE BLUE THUNDER!
The last performace of Mike Pritchard's Blue Thunder & The Lightning Horns will be today, August 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Meadows Courtyard at the Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Ave. G as part of their Summer Showcase concerts. Tim McCasland - who's been playing with Blue Thunder for years - has retired from the Commercial Music department at SPC and moving on ... causing the thunder to roll away! Mike is still around and plays with other bands but we wish Tim well in his new journey! The show today is FREE!

how to store, print, and use your photos plus helpful tips!
August 28 - Cool Card making class (adults and kids)
August 29 - Mosaics 101 - we'll make a mosaic frame, learn about glass, tools, tiles, and grouting. Once you've taken this class, you'll be ready for more projects.

Tuesday, August 22 - "Birding El Cielo, Mexico" is the Llano Estacado Audubon Society program at 7 pm where Brandon Best will talk about and show slides of his February 2006 trip to southern Tamaulipas, Mexico and the El Cielo Birding Festival. The El Cielo Biosphere Reserve consists of the northernmost cloud forest in the western hemisphere and hosts an amazing array of tropical birds. Many of these species have never been recorded in the United States despite the Reserve being only 200 miles south of Brownsville, TX. Location: Municipal Garden and Arts Center, 4215 S. University, program is FREE and open to the public! Light refreshments served.

August 24 - Empowering Women features Phyllis Jones.
Women today face priority choices of all kinds. How to handle priority choices and maintain your poise is our topic this month! Phyllis Jones is a Mary Kay consultant, a cookbook writer, a public speaker, a fashion coordinator and a “tall drink of west Texas personality”. Join us for this uplifting time. Empowering Women is a "low key" easy-to-attend monthly lunch gathering of professional women who enjoy the fellowship of others and learning about various topics. This month we will explore the "Power of Poise and Priorities", introduce each other, be inspired by Phyllis and enjoy the delicious food at the Lubbock Club. more>

September 9 - The 36th Annual Fall Arts Festival is a family-oriented arts festival that includes more than 100 vendors selling handcrafted items, all day entertainment on the main stage, art demonstrations and concession booths. This event has traditionally attracted more than 10,000 visitors and this year we are hoping to make the festival bigger and better than ever. Vendors have traditionally offered such items as jewelry, clothing, hand made items and other fine arts and crafts.
