June 1….Buddy Holly Summer Showcase Series - This week Mikayla Griffin plays Americana/Pop/Country. Summer Showcase 2017 is free to the public. There will be a cash bar, food and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages are allowed. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm in the Meadows Courtyard, 1810 Crickets Avenue.

June 1….Lubbock Fun Club Singles "SOS" Monthly Dinner - Come and enjoy friends and food at Cantina Laredo. June 2….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations orpick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. The trail runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 2….The Art of Wonder Woman: An Artist Collective Gallery - Since 1941, Wonder Woman has been a warrior for the innocent and fighter for Justice. Her impact in pop culture is significant and this June, we have gathered artists of all types to make pieces dedicated to the Amazonian Princess herself. To celebrate the release of her first movie, each artist will be doing a Wonder Woman themed art piece based off her long history and the role model she has become for people everywhere. The reception will be June 2nd, 6-9 pm during the First Friday Art Trail. Paintings will be available for purchase and the gallery will run the whole month. June 2…West Texas Watercolor Society 2017 Spring / Summer Show - The Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center (GAC) will host a reception for the opening of West Texas Watercolor Society 2017 Spring / Summer Show. The West Texas Watercolor Society Exhibit is composed of approximately 100 water media artists from primarily the West Texas area. These talented artists utilize watercolor and acrylic media in a variety of styles to create beautiful art works from the abstract to photorealistic. In addition to displaying and selling their work, artists will be competing for merit awards as judged by artist Tina Fuentes. Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center, 4215 University Ave; 6 – 9 p.m.

June 2….Classic Rock: Tribute to Boston, Heart and Kansas - Join us for a rockin' Friday night as the Cactus pays tribute to three of the great classic rock acts of all time! If you want to see truly great local talent, come out and hear the amazing vocal talents of Jeff McCreight, Jason Fellers Bethany Longoria and Amber Pennington. All are backed by The Rhythm Machine, comprised of Tony Garcia on drums; Ross Raedeke on bass; Mark Paden, rhythm guitar; Jacob Nalle, electric guitar; and bandleader Johannes Bjerregaard, keyboard. You'll hear the mega-hits from Boston including "More Than A Feeling", "Amanda", "Rock & Roll Band" and "Don't Look Back" - just to name a few. We'll recount the biggest hits from Heart - including "Barracuda", "What About Love", "Even It Up" and "Crazy On You". And we'll channel the best of the group Kansas - and their greatest, including "Dust In the Wind", "Carry On Wayward Son", "Point Of No Return" and more. June 3….Pee Wee Fishing Tournament - It is time to bring your little ones out to Buffalo Springs Lake to join our annual Pee Wee Fishing Tournament. Fishing license are not required for anyone on this day because it is a free fishing day through Texas Parks and Wildlife. (There will be a gate entry fee for adults, $10) This event is free for children 11 and under. Children 11 and under will receive free gate entry to participate in the fishing tournament (7:30am - 9:00am). Gate entry for adults is $10. Registration begins at Buffalo Bay Marina at 8:00am. The tournament begins at 9:00 am and ends at 11:00 am. Participants will receive a free T-shirt (while supplies last). Prizes will be awarded for each age group. Age groups: 5 and Under, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10-11

Rules:
1. One fishing pole per participant
2. All fish must be caught on a fishing pole by hand
3. Kids over 5 years old must land fish by his/her self. Parents can help the child with bait and give instruction but please allow each child to fish on their own as much as possible.
4. Any bait or lure allowed
5. First come first served, please respect other kid’s spots
6. Fishing from bank or dock only, anywhere on the lake
7. Fish must be at the turn-in by 11:00am or earlier
8. Fish must be alive at weigh in to qualify
9. Decisions by event staff are final
10. State of Texas Fishing Rules and Regulations apply
11. Practice allowed any time prior to tournament day
12. This is an individual tournament - No combing catches
13. Catch and Release Tournament

June 3….Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market - The first market of the 2017 season is here! Visit the Downtown Farmers Market Saturday, June 3rd at 19th and Buddy Holly Ave from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a taste of downtown Lubbock, and the finest in local produce, meat, dairy, cheese. baked goods and arts. June 3….Caprock Corvette Club Charity Car Show
- Every summer, Caprock Corvette Club holds a benefit car show with all proceeds going to charity. Formed in 2004 with the intent to bring together fellow Corvette enthusiasts and to be of service to the community, this non-profit club made their first donation to a local charity that same year. All Corvettes are welcome to participate! There is a class for each generation of Corvettes, as well as the additional classes of People’s Choice, Daily Driver, Convertible, and Best of Show. Registration is $25 per car. Show participants will judge the entries. There will be lots of awards, door prizes, and good music! Bring the entire family to see the “cool cars.” Spectators are free! The show will take place “rain or shine.” Restrooms, food, and shade are available. June 3….Ballet in the Park - Parks and Recreation and Ballet Lubbock are pleased to host the first-ever Ballet in the Park at 10 a.m. every Saturday in June beginning on June 3, 2017. This open air, outdoor fitness class for ages 7-adult is designed to introduce and nurture students in the art of dance. Come ready to tendu, jump and stretch to classical composers and maybe some rock and roll too. Wear comfortable shoes and seasonally appropriate clothing that you can dance in. We suggest bringing a small towel, water and sunscreen. Special thanks to Marcos Antonio Vasquez for leading Ballet in the Park. Youth under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This event will be held at Maxey Park in the grassy area to the left of the Maxey Community Center building. Admission is free. For more information, call the center at (806) 767-3796. June 3….Sounds of West Texas - This unique concert is one for the whole family, with fun jingles, and door prizes for lucky audience members. This show will feature fantastic local talent performing a mix of classic songs in country, pop nostalgia, folk, and rhythm & blues. There will be some patriotic music with a special tribute to our military, with some touching moments, and special guests to be presented. The emcee will be Billy Don Hampton and performers on the show will be: Larry Allen, Kaci Brice, Steve Burrus, Brenda Hopkins, Mike Huffman, Jay Lemon, Darryl Lippe, Donnetta Lippe, Donnie Martin, Johnny Richardson, Jordan Sheets, Tatum Sheets, Betty Smith, Keith Smith, John Schmitz, Baxter Vaughan, Mark Wallney, Rick Ward, Terry Westbrook, Steve Williams, and special guests representing each war since World War II. There will be reserved seating only. Tickets are $20 or $15 and can be purchased online (by clicking on the exact seats wanted and purchasing right then) at the Cactus Theater website: cactustheater.com or can be purchased at Cactus Theater box office by phone-(806.762.3233), or in person. The box office is open 3:00-5:30 pm M-Th and 3:00-9:00 on Fri and Sat (when shows are going on.) Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the concert. June 3, 4, 6….Silent Wings Museum: 73rd Anniversary of D-Day - The Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock, Texas will commemorate the 73rd anniversary of D-Day on Saturday, June 3, Sunday, June 4 and Tuesday, June 6, for three days of events, honoring the sacrifices made by the Allied forces on the shores of Normandy, France during a critical moment in the War in Europe. We invite the community to join us for this yearly, family-friendly event. Activities throughout the weekend include screenings of the documentary D-Day Remembered, vintage WWII aircraft and vehicles on display, living history groups and children’s activities. All aircraft will fly-in and be on display as weather permits. This event is open to the public, free of charge.

June 4….Sunday Concerts at The Park - Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and picnics to Wagner Park and listen to the Westwind Brass Band every Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. beginning June 4, 2017. Additional concerts will be held at 8:00 p.m. on June 11, 18, and 25, and on July 2, 9 and 16. Enjoy these free concerts for all ages and experience music out under the West Texas sky in this neighborhood park. A special thank you to the Westwind Brass Band for their commitment to bringing music to the people of Lubbock every summer. Wagner Park is located at 26th Street and Flint Avenue.
