November 10….The John Conlee Show - The veteran country hitmaker - best known for his signature song “Rose Colored Glasses” - comes to town for an intimate concert at the Cactus Theater. Between 1978 and 2004, Conlee placed a total of 32 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, and recorded 11 studio albums. His singles include seven #1 hits: "Lady Lay Down," "Backside of Thirty," "Common Man," "I'm Only in It for the Love," "In My Eyes," "As Long As I'm Rockin' with You" and "Got My Heart Set on You." In addition to these, Conlee sent 14 other songs into the Top Ten. No opener scheduled at this time. November 11….Veterans Day Celebration - Come celebrate Veterans Day at the Silent Wings Museum which will be open to public with free admission all day. There will be a morning ceremony at 11 a.m. with the presentation of colors, reading of the Presidential Proclamation by Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope, playing of Taps by Jerry Serrano and patriotic musical performance by the choirs of All Saints Episcopal School. Come to the Hangar Gallery and brush up on your dance steps with professional dance instructors before the big band starts! Free Swing Dance Lessons are free to the public and open to all ages at starting at 5:30 p.m. The evening events start at 6:30 p.m. with a concert and dance featuring the big band sounds of Finessence, with a full brass horn section and dynamic vocal performers. November 11….TTU Presidential Lecture & Performance Series: Comedy Legends The Second City - Chicago’s legendary sketch and improv comedy theater returns to the Allen Theatre at 7:00 PM with “The Best of The Second City.” This must-see show features the best sketches and songs from The Second City’s 55-year history made famous by superstars like Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Mike Meyers, Chris Farley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John and Jim Belushi, John Candy, Steve Carell, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and more-- as well as their trademark improvisation. Come see where it all began during this special one-night engagement. November 11…American Songwriter: Tribute to Bob Dylan - In the history of American popular music, few songwriters can be mentioned in the same breath as the mystical, mercurial tunesmith known to the world as....Bob Dylan. As a recent recipient of the prestigious Nobel Prize for his contributions to the American songbook, the Cactus joins in the salute with this ALL NEW concert in celebration of this noteworthy achievement. In addition to his own monumental recording output, Bob Dylan's catalog of compositions has been mined by hundreds of artists for the past half century - producing some of the most well-known and best-loved classics along the way. Now, the Cactus Theater pays tribute to the man and his music in this ALL NEW production - featuring many of Lubbock's greatest vocal talents. November 11….Matador Singers Veterans Day Concert - Every heart beats true for the red, white, and blue at this concert that features a wide variety of patriotic music for male chorus. Join the Matador Singers with graduate conductors Benjamin Hawkinson and Ryan Person to salute and honor the service of all veterans and their families from every branch of the U.S. military. November 11 - 12….Lubbock Symphony Orchestra: Romeo & Juliet - This Masterworks tells Shakespeare’s tale of merciful love, featuring two classic selections paralleled by love, but separated by time. This includes selections from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and the modern Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to West Side Story. This theme is continued by Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a statement to the splendor of love, performed by Adam Golka, as we welcome him back to Lubbock. November 11 - 13….American Kennel Club All Breed Dog Agility Trials - The South Plains Obedience Training Club of Lubbock will be hosting three days of American Kennel Club All Breed Dog Agility Trials. Approximately 150 purebred and mixed breed dogs from surrounding states will be judged at this event, many of which are the top agility trained dogs in the country. Agility is one of the newest AKC events and is open to every breed and mixed breed dogs. Dogs must be at least one year old to compete. In an Agility Trial a dog demonstrates its ability to negotiate a complex course that will include a walk over a bridge, jumping through objects, going through tunnels, weaving through a line of poles and pausing on command. There are different height categories so each dog is tested fairly on the course. Each exhibitor and dog team will be judged at one of 3 different levels of competition; Novice, Open or Excellent. The dogs competing in these classes are working toward AKC Agility titles. There will be free canine educational material available at these trials. No admission fee will be charged for this fun filled and educational event. Agility is a fast paced sport that is exciting for the dog, handlers and spectators. Don’t miss it! November 12….Veteran’s Day Parade - This is the first Lubbock Veteran’s Day Parade to be held in Lubbock, Texas. The event is designed to pay tribute to veterans and all that have served in Lubbock. Veteran's Day is November 11 in all states and is usually observed as a state holiday and a federal holiday. This event is for veterans and families of Lubbock, to bring the community and region together. The 2016 theme is: “Honoring All Who Served” – and participants are encouraged to pay tribute to veterans and all who have served the community. Route: Begins at First Baptist Church at Broadway and Avenue W, moves east on Broadway to Avenue M, then north on Ave. M to Lubbock Memorial Civic Center parking lot. Parade begins at 10 a.m.

November 12….Taste of Science - Come hungry for science! Explore the science behind the food we eat! Join the Science Spectrum, South Plains Food Bank, and Texas Tech Department of Food Science & Nutrition, for FREE hands-on food science activities. Enjoy samples from some of your favorite local businesses and live cooking and food science demonstrations! Event is FREE to the public and located in the Lobby and Exhibit Hall.

November 12….The Roundtable presents: Tanya Meadows, Director of Marketing - American Wind Power Center - Our luncheons are held at Hillcrest Country Club 4011 N Boston Ave, Lubbock. North on University past State Living Facility to Newcomb, left for about 4 blocks and you will come to the entrance of the Hillcrest Country Club at Boston and Newcomb. Meeting Format: People arrive about 11 a.m. to start registering, pay for lunch and some socializing. Food service starts at 11:15 followed by introductions and announcements at 11:30.The speaker will start about 11:50 and be finished with the program and questions from the audience by 1 p.m. The public is invited. Lunch/attendance is fifteen dollars ($15) per person. Limited menu includes beverage and dessert. There are no membership fees or dues associated with attending the functions. Any extra monies that you would like to contribute will go towards the speakers lunch and towards our Honors College Scholarship fund at Tech. Our Saturday luncheons are a great way to (1) learn more about current global/US/Texas/Lubbock issues and events, (2) meet other people in area who may become lifetime friends (3) feel more at home in Lubbock. Most wear business or business-casual attire. No RSVP is necessary. November 12….The Life and Art of Edgar Degas with Christian Conrad - Edgar Degas (1834-1917): Considered to be one of the cornerstones of the Impressionist movement, Edgar Degas revolutionized the use of color in modern art. Renowned for his paintings of ballerinas and Parisian café life, the work of Degas also engaged in new techniques exploring new materials in art. In addition Degas was also connected to some of the more famous artists of his time, including Manet, Renoir, and Monet. Join the discussion as we look at the art and times of Degas and enjoy his masterpieces. This lecture will also examine works that will be featured in the upcoming Degas exhibition at the Houston Museum of Fine Art. Saturday Lectures at LHUCA is an informal conversation over the life and work of contemporary artists. It’s a stress-free opportunity to examine the art and ideas that underlie much of the modern art world. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation. November 12….GIANT Screen Football: Texas Tech Red Raiders at Oklahoma State Cowboys - Join us for a FREE SCREENING of the Tech vs. Texas Big XII football game as we again offer fans the chance to see the game on our new, GIANT screen in the Cactus Theater. The concession stand and Cactus cantina will be available for your enjoyment. For this game, there is no ticket or voucher required - we simply invite fans to see the game on the big screen with us. Seating will be general admission for this event....so sit wherever you'd like on the floor (balcony will only be opened if needed). We're excited to have this brand new screen in place and the highest-quality, digital, laser projection in town!
