September 2….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locationsor pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can befound throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. Merle Haggard literally taught the world what epic songwriting was all about...and he became an undisputed American icon in the process. Playhouse Presents” Winnie the Pooh” - Winnie-the-Pooh is Christopher Robin's fat little "bear of very little brain" who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat "a little something." However, he finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as the dismal Eeyore, Piglet and Rabbit, with his countless relations. Pooh's intentions are always the best, but his passion for honey and condensed milk keeps getting him into trouble. When friend Piglet gets roped into Kanga's household and Kanga starts bathing him (with soap!) and forcing down spoonfuls of Strengthening Medicine, Pooh wants to fly to the rescue, but he's had so many snacks he gets stuck in the door. September 3….Lubbock Downtown Farmer’s Market - Held each Saturday, June through October, this unique gathering of area producers, specialty food and beverage providers and select artisans specializing in homegrown or homemade. Held in the Depot District area, this weekly event has become a highlight of the summer months and offers something for everyone. Support your local growers and be part of the "locally produced" movement. Be there at 9 a.m. – produce is available until vendors sell out! Tornado Gallery,1822 Buddy Holly Avenue; 9 a.m.

September 3….21st Annual Yoakum County Watermelon Round-Up - Come enjoy this free festival that brings in people from miles around equipped with fun, arts, crafts, food and entertainment. The festival will feature free watermelon slices, 80+ Arts & Craft Vendors, 15+ Food Vendors, Live Entertainment, Car Show, Bike Show, 5K & 10K Run, Cow Patty Bingo, Petting Zoo, Kids Games & Activities, Watermelon Decorating Contest, Seed Spitting Contest, Watermelon Eating Contest, Inflatables, Kiddie Train Rides and much more! On the square in Plains, Texas - just one hour southwest of Lubbock. Event runs from 9 am through the afternoon.

September 3….College Football:
Texas Tech vs. Stephen F. Austin - The college football season kicks off with an evening home game at Jones AT&T Stadium. The hometown Red Raiders host the visiting Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in the first game of the 2016 campaign. Drive of Champions at 4th and University Avenue; 7 p.m.

September 3….Big Screen Football at the Cactus Theater - The Cactus returns to its roots as a cinema - with new state-of-the-art laser projection debuting this weekend! To literally "kick things off"....patrons may purchase a $5 food/beverage voucher - redeemable at the concession stand - which will also allow the selection of a reserved seat in the auditorium. There will be a free screening of the Texas Tech football game vs Stephen F. Austin at 7 pm for those holding a food/beverage voucher. Box office will open at 6 pm - approximately one hour prior to the game...but purchasing your voucher in advance is appreciated and suggested. All attendees, regardless of age, must have a voucher to reserve a seat. Voucher must be used in its entirety for purchase of food/beverage and may not be used for beer, wine or mixed drinks. Expanded selection of concession items for this screening include hot dogs, chili dogs and nachos - in addition to traditional concession offerings of soft drinks, popcorn and candy. Special combo packages will be available to allow an even exchange of voucher for various combo offerings. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7 -11 p.m.

Buddy Holly Center Observes Music Icon's 80th Birthday with Festivities


September 7….Buddy's 80th Birthday Bash - Each year, the Buddy Holly Center Commemorates Buddy's Birthday with a series of special events. 2016 marks Buddy's 80th Birthday. We invite the public to join us for all of our celebratory events throughout the week.

Friday, September 2, 2016
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
First Friday Art Trail - Lubbock's monthly celebration of art and music.
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm: Zoe Carter CD Release Party
The evening will be punctuated with a concert and CD release party with Zoe Carter in the Meadows Courtyard. Zoe was the winner of the Blue Light's songwriter contest.

Buddy's 80th Birthday Bash

10:00 - 3:00: The J.I. Allison House will be open to the public for tours.
10:00 - 3:00: "Make and take" children's crafts in the education space.
10:00 - 4:30: The Real Buddy Holly Story, produced and narrated by music icon, Paul McCartney, will be shown in the Fine Arts Gallery.
4:00 pm: The Lubbock County Historical Commission will host an historical marker dedication.
4:30 - 7:00 pm: Buddy's 80th Birthday Bash - Cash bar, birthday cake, live music in the Meadows Courtyard
5:00 - 7:00 pm - Live Buddy Holly music and oldies rock & roll will be provided by Jason Fellers

Poodle Skirts and Hot Rods Workshop
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Come enjoy the spirit of the 1950's by participating in our Poodle Skirt and Hot Rod Workshop. Create your own unique poodle skirt that you can wear for any occasion, or build and paint your own model hot rod so that it really rocks! Anyone ages 8 and up can join in our leap back in time. The cost is $15, please pre-register by September 7.
