June 16….2016 Summer Showcase Series - The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another summer of music and fun with the 2016 Summer Showcase Concert Series. This week, local talent Jenni Dale Lord plays her brand of Americana. Summer Showcase 2016 is free to the public. There will be a cash bar, food and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages are allowed. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm in the Meadows Courtyard, 1810 Crickets Avenue.

June 17….Joe Ely - Unplugged - The Lubbock legend returns for another turn on the Cactus stage...playing the songs and telling the tales that have shaped his remarkable 40 year career as lord of the highway. June 17 - 18 (Repeats June 24-25)….Moonlight Musicals Presents: “Seussical” - To begin their 11th summer season, Moonlight Musicals is happy to announce their upcoming production of the charming Dr. Seuss-inspired tale, “Seussical”. The story centers around the tale of Horton the elephant and his quest to protect the dust-speck of Whoville and the Whos who live there. Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, “Seussical” will entertain all ages and keep you laughing for days, while also showing the potent powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community. June 18….South Plains Kidney Foundation Walk ‘n Roll - Walk/Run 1 mile Walk / 5 K Run , visit vendor and health screening booths, enjoy the guest speaker, goodie bags, raffle prizes, and more. Registration fees: $30 (Donations accepted). The goal of this walk is to bring awareness to chronic kidney disease, encourage early detection and raise funds for education, outreach, and patients’ assistance. June 18….Shepherd of the Plains Summer Bible Blast and 2nd Annual Neighborhood Block Party - Shepherd of the Plains is hosting two events. The Summer Bible Blast will include a morning of free fun for ages 4-10 featuring crafts, Bible story, games, snack, and singing from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Registration is open now until June 17th at www.shepherdlbk.org. Also on that day starting at 12:30 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Shepherd of the Plains will be hosting their 2nd Annual Neighborhood Block Party. The entire event is free and includes 2 Obstacle Courses, Bouncehouses, Carnival Games, Live Music, Food, Prize Walk, Bean Bag Toss, and much more. Everyone is welcome. June 18….Lubbock Downtown Farmer’s Market (Opening Weekend) - Held each Saturday, June through October, this unique gathering of area producers, specialty food and beverage providers and select artisans specializing in homegrown or homemade. Held in the Depot District area, this weekly event has become a highlight of the summer months and offers something for everyone. Support your local growers and be part of the "locally produced" movement. CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! Looking for people who would like to be a market ambassador! duties include: answering questions, getting people to sign-up for email updates, selling LDFM bags and just welcoming people to the market. June 18….Funky Junk Round Up - This is a one day shopping extravaganza featuring a unique blend of vintage finds & inspiration, one of a kind handcrafted items, antique décor, hand painted furniture, repurposed items, rusty-chippy-shabby-reloved & refunked JUNK, bling & glam boutiques, sparkly jewels and FABuLOUS JUNKTIQUES for your creative soul! Put some JUNK in your trunk™ y’all! Admission $5.00 (Under 12 FREE) Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


June 18….Print Saturdays: Block Printing T-shirts
- Cost: $5.00 per printed shirt. Participants bring their own t-shirts to block print pre-selected custom design onto t-shirts. Print Saturdays are events for visitors of all levels of artistic skill to gain hands on experience by creating their own prints. During these print workshops, dedicated print studio staff members teach participants screen printing; letterpress; stationary making; and block printing. No pre-registration required. These are casual come and go workshops, so feel free to bring friends and family of all ages! Print Saturdays in June will take place at the Helen DeVitt Jones Print Studio at CASP located at 1106 5th Street, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.


June 18….Starlight Movie Night
- Enjoy a movie under the stars near the Meadow Stage at Buffalo Springs Lake. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, snacks, and family along for a great movie night experience under the stars. We will be showing a great family favorite for all to enjoy! Gate admission is the only fee for this event. Gate Admission is: 65+ = $2, 12-64 = $8, 6-11 = $3, 0-5 = Free. Come early and enjoy a day at the lake. Swimming, Fishing, Hiking, and Camping. Buffalo Springs Lake, 9999 High Meadow Rd. 9:30 p.m.- 11:30 p.m.

June 19 (Repeats June 26; July 3, 10, 17)….Westwinds Brass Band Summer Concerts in the Park - During the summer the Westwinds Brass Band presents a series of seven “Concerts in the Park” in Lubbock on Sunday evenings in June and July. Attendees to these free concerts bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy an “old fashioned concert in the park.” These concerts feature a completely new program for each concert. Included on these concerts are traditional band favorites, marches, patriotic selections, and a soloist for each concert. Another highlight of the program is the “kids march,” where kids of all ages march around the concert area and are awarded “goodies” at the end. Wagner Park, 26th and Flint; 8 p.m.
