May 12....Cash'd Out - The “Man in Black” is brought back to life by Cash’d Out, a tribute band celebrating Johnny Cash and all of his classic hits. Don Caldwell goes on record as saying, “This is the best Johnny Cash tribute band on the market today, and we are very fortunate to have them at the Cactus Theater.” The band’s live shows respectfully reference the Sun Records and early Columbia era sound, combined with the energy of the classic multi-platinum live recordings from Folsom Prison and San Quentin. May 13….Floral Arrangement Sale - The Floral Design class will be creating their final arrangements on Thursday, May 12th, 3-6 p.m. at the PSS Greenhouse and Gardens. The arrangements will be on sale and on display on Friday, May 13th, 9:30 a.m. – 3p.m. in the lobby of the Bayer Plant Science Building (15th and Detroit). Proceeds from this sale benefit the Margaret Coil Floral Design Endowment. Payment can be made by cash or check. Please feel free to come watch the arrangements being made on Thursday and for display and sale on Friday.

May 13….New Neighbors Club Luncheon
- This luncheon will include the installment of officers and presentation of donations to charitable organizations. The Club annually awards funds to nonprofit agencies that provide services in Lubbock and surrounding areas. A style show by Dillard’s will follow. New Neighbors, a 38 years old organization and currently has 225 members. The cost for the Luncheon is $15 and reservations are required. May 13 - 14….Music on the Lake - Buffalo Springs Lake will have live music this weekend at the lake! Mike Pritchard will be playing at Mad Mike's Marina from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday. The marina will be serving fried catfish as well as all menu items. Please come enjoy the music, food, and fun! On Saturday, join us at Buffalo Springs Lake for a great concert and car show! Almost-legendary Lubbock band Whips & Kisses officially retired, but discovered that it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be — especially when you have the opportunity to rock your fans at Buffalo Springs Lake. Playing your favorite '80s tunes done with attitude and a great sense of humor, Whips & Kisses will hit the Meadow Stage at Buffalo Springs Lake, Saturday. So bring a cooler (no glass, please!), a lawn chair, a blanket, the family, your friends and anything else you need to make this summer kick off extravaganza your favorite place to be! It’s a free show, all you’ll need to pay is gate admission ...to the lake. There will be a classic car show as well. Over five car clubs will be represented! We will start the pre-party at the Sonic Drive-In at 64th & Frankford and take our car cruise out to the lake and start the party. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. May 14….Lemonade Day - is a free, fun, experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. It began in Houston, Texas in 2007. Since then it has grown from 2,700 kids to 120,000 kids in 31 cities across America and Canada. The foremost objective of Lemonade Day is to empower youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society – the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward thinking citizens of tomorrow. Come support the many lemonade stands that will be operating on May 14th in Lubbock.

May 14….Mental Health Recovery Awareness Walk - StarCare Specialty Health System will sponsor a Mental Health Recovery Awareness Walk designed to educate the community about what it feels like to live with a mental illness and reduce discrimination and stigma with a focus on recovery. Registration for the Walk is $10. You do not have to be registered to walk; however, every person registered will receive a free Mental Health Recovery Awareness Walk t-shirt. Other upcoming Mental Health Awareness activities in May include a Food Truck Fundraiser to be held at Lowe’s Home Improvement from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on May 21st. May 14….2016 Great Strides Walk - Great Strides provides a great opportunity for people within the community to get involved in a great cause. Participants can form walk teams at their workplace, through their clubs and organizations, or with friends and family. Get ready to put those fundraising caps on and lace up those shoes as we take Great Strides to fight cystic fibrosis. Walk day is a fun, family-oriented event with a healthy 5k walk, children's activities, food, and festivities that participants look forward to year after year. The Lubbock Strides walk will feature music, festivities, food, kid's korner and a balloon artist. Every walker that raises a $100 will receive a 2016 Great Strides t-shirt and every walker that reaches $500 will receive Super Strider status and an extra goody. This year we expect over 350 walkers to join forces and raise more than $75,000 towards Cystic Fibrosis research. Visit http://fightcf.cff.org to register for the walk. May 14….Arboretum Second Saturday Program – The topic for this program will be “The History of the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum” with speaker Arthur Elliot. Coffee is offered at 9:30 a.m. and the program starts at 10 a.m. There will be an open house following the presentation from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, 4111 University Avenue.

May 14.....The Roundtable presents: Keith Bryant Superintendent of Cooper School District: "What's Happening in the 3rd Fastest Growing School District in Texas" - Our luncheons are held at Hillcrest Country Club 4011 N Boston Ave, Lubbock. North on University past State Living Facility to Newcomb, left for about 4 blocks and you will come to the entrance of the Hillcrest Country Club at Boston and Newcomb. Meeting Format: People arrive about 11 a.m. to start registering, pay for lunch and some socializing. Food service starts at 11:15 followed by introductions and announcements at 11:30.The speaker will start about 11:50 and be finished with the program and questions from the audience by 1 p.m. The public is invited. Lunch/attendance is fifteen dollars ($15) per person. Limited menu includes beverage and dessert. There are no membership fees or dues associated with attending the functions. Any extra monies that you would like to contribute will go towards the speakers lunch and towards our Honors College Scholarship fund at Tech. Our Saturday luncheons are a great way to (1) learn more about current global/US/Texas/Lubbock issues and events, (2) meet other people in area who may become lifetime friends (3) feel more at home in Lubbock. May 14….Ballet Lubbock School Performance - The School Performance showcases the students of the Ballet Lubbock School. Beginning Ballet Level and up perform for their friends and family. The performance is a fitting end to a great season of hard work and accomplishment. The performance is free of charge, and all are invited to attend. May 14….Great Choruses Concert - The Lubbock Chorale is delighted to end their 40th-anniversary season with a celebratory concert event for their dedicated supporters and season patrons that will bring fulfilling closure. As performing major choral works with full orchestra is the staple and lifeblood of the Chorale’s heritage and musical mission, and as they are celebrating four decades of bringing such masterworks to the Lubbock community, they are thrilled to present Great Choruses – a collage concert of highlights from some of the greatest oratorios of all time, including: Mendelssohn’s Elijah and St. Paul; Haydn’s Creation; Vivaldi’s Gloria; Beethoven’s Christ on the Mount of Olives; and Requiem settings of Mozart, Brahms, Fauré, and Dúrúflé — all presented with full symphony orchestra. The concert and a reception to follow will also highlight the Scholarship singers, acknowledge the educational impact of the Chorale, and recognize and thank the donors in the Lubbock community.
