March 28 - April 24….Landmark Arts SRO Photo Gallery Presents Sur La Route by David Pace - The exhibition is free and open to the public. David Pace will do a gallery talk on March 31 at 7 p.m. in the SRO Photo Gallery. The photographs in the series Sur La Route ("on the road") by David Pace were taken in the rural village of Bereba in the West African country of Burkina Faso, and are elegant portraits of Pace's neighbors as they return home on an earthen path at the day's end. He uses a fill-flash to illuminate his subjects and to "take advantage of beautiful skies that appear for just a few moments before nightfall." As a counter to media portrayals of Africa as either devastated or exotic, Pace emphasizes both the beauty of the landscape and the "simply beauty of everyday life" in Bereba. David Pace holds an MFA from San Jose State University. He has taught photography in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 20 years, and has spent considerable time photographing in Burkina Faso since 1997. His work has been exhibited internationally, and featured recently in major publications including National Geographic (2015), Huffington Post (2015), and Slate Magazine (2014). Visit www.srophotogallery.org for more information. The Landmark Arts SRO Photo Gallery is located in the sub-basement of the Texas Tech School of Art Building. The Art Building is located at 3010 18th Street (near the corner of 18th Street and Flint Ave). Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. On weekdays, paid parking is available on the fourth floor of the Flint Avenue parking facility. Parking is free on weekends. Admission to the School of Art Galleries is free.
