May 28….TEDxLubbock Women - In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) experience. At the event, TED Talk videos and live speakers combine to spark discussion and connection in a small group. TEDxLubbockWomen will provide a platform for the brightest minds to be inspired and to inspire others. Speakers will give the best talk of their lives led by facilitators Margaret Randle, Renee Gonzales Davis and Teddy Jones will have an opportunity to discuss their ideas with the audience. May 28….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series - The BHC is gearing up for another hot summer of music and fun. This week's featured act is John Sprott. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Meadows Courtyard. Summer Showcase is FREE to the public. May 28….Junior’s Listening Room – Music meets wine every Thursday as Junior Vasquez hosts an intimate music experience at Cap*Rock Winery, bringing out some of Lubbock’s talented artists. May 29 - 30….A Cactus Tribute to Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, and The Eagles - For those of you who have enjoyed a Cactus Theater Tribute show to The Eagles, you are going to love this combination. Fleetwood Mac was part of our most recent tribute and Amber Pennington blew you away singing those incredible Stevie Nicks songs. There is no better cast anywhere presenting the music of The Eagles than Dustin Garrett and crew. Now, we are adding the music of another one of the most exciting bands of that era: Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Join Dustin, Amber, Jason Fellers, West Garza, and The Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine for this cutting edge Cactus Tribute presentation. May 30….Fishing for Fun Starts at Copper Breaks - Children aged 13 and younger are invited to participate in the free event. The day starts with fishing activities for youngsters, led by Ranger Carl Hopper who is a certified Angler Education instructor. These activities help the kids to learn the basics of fishing, such as rules, safety, and identification. Following the angler education activities, there will be a youth fishing tournament from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Big Fish and Most Fish in each age group. Age group categories are Age 0-7, and Ages 8-13. No fishing license is required for Fishing For Fun, but regular admission fees of $2.00 for adults apply. Children 13 and under are admitted free. “A great way to get out of the house and spend some quality time with your kids is to take them fishing,” said Ranger Hopper, The park has a limited amount of fishing tackle and poles available through the Tackle Loaner Program. The poles and tackle are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bait is also available at the park headquarters. For more info,, contact the park daily during business hours at (940) 839-4331. Copper Breaks State Park is located 13 miles south of Quanah and eight miles north of Crowell on State Highway 6. Event runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

May 31….The Lubbock Heritage Presents: Home Management Program At Texas Technological College - The program will be presented by Lynn Whitfield, Associate Archivist, Certified Archivist, Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, Texas Tech University. The Home Management House (HMH) Program at Texas Technological College began shortly after the new college’s opening in 1925. For over 40 years the program provided practical experience for those interested in the scientific methods of child rearing and household management. In the booming years of the early 1940s, occupants of the HMH also had to deal with situations such as rationing, planting victory gardens, canning and other contributions to the war effort. In 2001, the Texas Tech University Archives acquired a large collection from the College of Human Sciences among which were 59 scrapbooks, many of which detailed the activities of the Home Management House and the women who lived there as part of their education. The scrapbooks also contain information on similar programs in other states. The Home Management Houses, also called Practice Houses, were part of a national movement to offer female students the opportunity to hone their home economic skills under a supervised and academic setting. Our speaker will provide interesting details on this program. This program is free and open to the public but limited to 45 guests due to the size of the “Practice House”, so reservations are necessary. The program will be held at what is now known as “The Cottage” but was formally “The Practice House” on the TTU campus. The little building is hidden between Weeks Hall and the Human Sciences Building. We will have Historical Society members on hand to guide guests to parking and to the building. Parking will be available on the south side of the Broadway entrance and in parking lots R07 and R13 by the 15th Street entrance. June 2….Cactus Theatre presents: "The Elephant Man" - The Cactus Theater will feature this serious drama based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the nineteenth century. A horribly deformed young man, victim of rare skin and bone diseases, he has become the star freak attraction in traveling side shows. Found abandoned and helpless, he is admitted to London's prestigious Whitechapel hospital. Under the care of celebrated young physician Frederick Treves, Merrick is introduced to London society and slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati only to be denied his ultimate dream, to become a man like any other. • June 9-11....Unda da Sea - From tiny underwater plant life to charismatic whales, the ocean is an amazing and fragile place. We will dive to the depths and watch Humpback Whales in the OMNI Theater, learn how and what whales eat, and make our own sea creature to take home.
• June 16-18....When I Grow Up - What do you want to be when you grow up? The possibilities are endless as a scientist. Students will think like a nano scientist to create new technologies, build like engineers using different materials, and experiment like a chemist causing awesome reactions.
• July 7-9....Game On! From sports to games coming to life, this camp will bring out your inner gamer. Learn why golf balls and footballs are shaped the way they are, why those birds are so angry, and create your own game character.
• July 14-16....Planet Defenders - From oceans, to deserts, our planet is awesome and we need to protect it! How do volcanoes and canyons form? Where does our water come from? We will answer these questions and more, and we will have a special guest from Texas Agrilife come and teach us how to conserve and save resources like rain water and make seed bombs to take home.
• July 21-23....Jr. Aviators Club - Learn the basics of flight as you spend the week training to be a pilot. Learn how airplanes fly and how planes led to space travel! We will make airplanes, design rocket ships, and train like an astronaut.
• August 4-6....Arts, Crafts, Science! Science is beautiful! In this camp, we will discover how art and science can be combined. Butterfly wings, sunsets, flowers, and more. We will tape, glue, and paint our way through science that is all around us!
• August 11-13....Legosaurus Camp - Modern Legos meet the world of prehistoric dinosaurs in this camp! Learn more about your favorite reptiles of the past as we bring them to life again! Participate in a dino dig, build Lego dinosaurs, and learn little known facts about the daily life of a dinosaur.

• July 7-9....Ready, Player 1! Get ready to level up! Are you hungry, hungry for some action? Ready to sink a ship or two? Why are those birds so angry? Join us as we become the characters in these and more of our favorite games!
• July 14-16....Planet Defenders - From oceans, to deserts, our planet is awesome and we need to protect it! How do volcanoes and canyons form? Where does our water come from? We will answer these questions and more, and we will have a
special guest from Texas Agrilife come and teach us how to conserve and save resources like rain water and make seed bombs to take home.
• July 21-23....Flight School - If you want to be a pilot or an astronaut, this is the camp for you! Learn the basics of flight as you spend the week training. Learn how airplanes, design a space elevator, and watch Living in the Age of Airplanes in the OMNI Theater.
• August 4-6....Electrifying Adventures - This is sure to be a hair raising camp! Students will learn all about electricity as they watch the Science Spectrum’s Tesla Coil and Van de Graaff generator in action, explore circuits, and harness static electricity.
• August 11-13...Robot Revolution - The robot revolution is here! Watch the new summer film Robots in the OMNI Theater, control a Mars Rover, and program your own robot in this camp!
