April 4….Nano Day - Join the Science Spectrum and the Texas Tech Department of Mechanical Engineering Saturday, for NanoDay in the lobby. This FREE* event is a chance to communicate small science to a large audience! The world is full of things of all different sizes, and in everyday life you encounter things at least three different scale sizes: macroscale, microscale, and the nanoscale! Things at macroscale are observed with your eyes; they are large enough to see without technology. The microscale is seen through the lens of a microscope, and things at a nanoscale are so small that it takes very specialized technology to see and to understand! A nanometer is one billionth of a meter, so we are talking about science on the molecular level. Nanoscience has real world applications in Engineering, Medical sciences, Environmental sciences, Military applications, and even in Agriculture and the clothing we wear! Through a grant provided by NISE Network, NanoDay will feature hands-on science activities that demonstrate nanoscience. The Texas Tech Department of Mechanical Engineering will display their research on nanoscience that uses metallic materials. Learn what nano is, where we can find it around us, and how it can make the world a better place at NanoDay!

Enjoy These FREE* NanoActivities:

Heat Transfer – explore how nanomaterials transfer energy and heat differently
Thin Films Prism Art – use nano to deconstruct a prism into colors
Invisibility Cloak – see how light can refract to produce invisibility
Kinetic Sand – feel a nanosubstance change the properties of sand
Nano Fabric – see how nanoscience can be used to recreate unique properties in nature
All NanoDay activities are located in the lobby and are FREE* to the public.
Standard Museum Admission and OMNI Theater rates apply. Science Spectrum Museum, 2579 S. Loop 289; 11a.m. to 3 p.m.

This Week's Trivia Question.....

Our winner this week will receive two tickets to see Bethany Hamilton (whose story was featured in the film "Soul Surfer") along with special guest Michelle Williams (formerly of the Grammy-winning pop group Destiny's Child) in the presentation Relentless at the United Supermarkets Arena, on April 11th.

To win these tickets, answer the trivia question below and email it to us using the fun phrase "Soul to Soul" at: info@lubbockfunclub.com

The Question: Since surfers are taught to stand with their left foot out front, what is the name given to a surfer who stands on the board with their right foot forward?

Be sure to include your DAYTIME PHONE NUMBER so we may get the tickets to you easily. We'd like to know if you live in Lubbock or the surrounding area so please include your hometown info.

Deadline for this contest is Sunday evening and the winners will be notified Monday by noon.
