February 6….Splash of Red ll - The Legacy Event Center and the West Texas Watercolor Society are proud to host “Splash of Red II.” This 2nd annual exhibit celebrates the color red in many forms of original and new media. Over 60 paintings are on display through February and will be for sale, as well as jewelry by Linda Adkins and Jackie DeVore. The public is invited to this opening event. Patrons are encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice Award for the paintings which will be presented at the end of February. Weekday hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. or by appointment. February 6….Mommy’s Little Sweetheart Dinner and Dance - Come spend the evening with your special little man. Hodges Community Center is hosting their Annual Mommy’s Little Sweetheart dinner and dance. Reservations for this mother-son event are $20/couple and $10/additional child. Together, you’ll enjoy a special dinner, dance the night away, and take home pictures to cherish forever. Reservations are required as space is limited. Call Stephanie Brady at 767-3706. February 6….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. February 6 – 7….The Friends of the Library Book Lovers Sale – This is a half-price sale of The Friends of the Lubbock Public Library and the prices are just unbelievable. Everything will be half price: this includes all regular books, better books, best books, movie VHS' and DVD's, framed art, grab bags, puzzles and more. Regular paperbacks will sell for 25 cents and regular hard covers will cost 50 cents apiece. February 6 – 7….2015 Vertical Plains Adventure Festival – This is a weekend celebration of the world we live in with a little climbing thrown in. The weekend will commence with the Reel Rock Film Tour, which brings the best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences across the globe. The Vertical Plains Climbing Competition, West Texas' best competition for skilled and beginning rock climbers, will take place on Saturday. Over the course of the years, we have had teams from as far away as Northern Iowa come to view the film festival, compete, and claim prizes. February 7....The Roundtable presents: Tim Collins, Chair, Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences - Progress on proposed performing arts center. What's in store for 2015? Our luncheons are held at Hillcrest Country Club 4011 N Boston Ave, Lubbock. North on University past State Living Facility to Newcomb, left for about 4 blocks and you will come to the entrance of the Country Club at Boston and Newcomb. We meet from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with registration and meal selection at 11 along with networking so we are ready to begin the meeting at 11:30. There are no membership fees or dues. Attendees each pay $15.00. Any extra proceeds goes to the Dudley E. Faver/Adolph Hanslik endowed scholarship to benefit TTU Honors College students. Our Saturday luncheons are a great way to (1) learn more about current global/US/Texas/Lubbock issues and events, (2) meet other people in area who may become lifetime friends (3) feel more at home in Lubbock. This annual health awareness fair is always a huge family hit. - The Llano Wine & Chocolate Fantasia was created to promote interaction among culinarians, foster alliances for students, give culinarians in the South Plains area the opportunity to gain experience in a competitive setting, and expose the public to an original event which they will not soon forget. Tickets to the event are $50.00 and proceeds go to the Parkinson's Society of West Texas as well as to fund scholarship for local chefs. February 9….Monday Night Magic - Does your kid love to act, sing and dance? Then Hub Performing Arts School's Monday Night Magic Class might be just the place for them. The class meets for twelve weeks on Mondays 5:30-7:00 and students learn acting, singing and dance skills and show off those skills at the end of the class with the performance of a short musical. February 10….TTU Presidential Lecture and Performance Series Presents: Cokie Roberts - Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News, providing analysis for all network news programming. She is also a political commentator for NPR. From 1996-2002 she co-anchored the weekly ABC interview program This Week. In her more than forty years in broadcasting, she has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. Ms. Roberts holds more than twenty honorary degrees, serves on the boards of several non-profit institutions and President Bush appointed her to his Commission on Service and Civic Participation. In 2008 the Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend,” one of the very few Americans to have attained that honor. For tickets call Select A Seat at 770-2000.
