September 4 – 7….26th Annual National Cowboy Symposium –. The purpose of the NCSC is to celebrate and preserve our Western heritage and cowboy culture for those who know and love it, and to introduce new audiences to the heritage and culture so they may embrace it as well. The event schedule includes entertainers, poetry and storytelling, western writers and authors panels, film and movie seminars, a Youth Wild West Day, horse-handling demonstrations, a horse-themed parade, Native American Indian activities and presentations, the ever-popular Chuck Wagon Cook-off and exhibits of Western artworks and merchandise. The 2014 NCSC is slated to feature more than 60 cowboy and cowgirl poets, musical acts, storytellers, more than 100 exhibit spaces filled with the best in Western art and goods, chuck wagons and other special presenters and presentations. September 5….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations orpick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. September 5…. Buddy Holly Center’s 15th Anniversary – This free event is for all ages, held during the First Friday Art Trail. At Buddy Holly Center’s 15th Anniversary Celebration, the band Touch of Soul will be performing funk music in the Meadows Courtyard from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., and “Buddy Holly Glasses,” a craft activity, will be in the Education Space for all ages to enjoy. September 6….Hike 4 Health - Hike 4 Health is a FREE event with activities for the whole FAMILY! Win lots of cool prizes and enjoy our trail of exciting outdoor activities! September 6….Lubbock Fun Club Singles "SOS" Potluck Picnic - Hey SOS’ers! We’re having a picnic! WooHoo! Bring your single friends. Our married “singles” are invited! If you are in contact with any of our “previous” singles that have gotten married, please pass this along. We are excited see our past members! This will be a potluck picnic so bring your favorite dish & plenty of water/thirst quenchers! We do have the large awning rented by the playground and there are trees for shade. September 6 - 7….Buddy's 78th Birthday Bash – The Buddy Holly Center is excited to announce Buddy’s 78th Birthday Bash in honor of Lubbock’s most famous son, Buddy Holly. Patrons are invited to tour the Center on September 6th – 7th. There will be events and activities for the whole family! David Leake: Impressions of Musicians will be on display in the Foyer Gallery and Art in Common will be on display in the Fine Arts Gallery. “shoebox guitars,” a craft activity will be available in the education space and an “instrument petting zoo” will be available in the Allison house, each until 4:30 p.m. at Buddy’s Birthday Bash Reception birthday cupcakes and punch will be served at 1 p.m. Allison Firefly will be performing rock 'n' roll in the Meadows Courtyard from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. For more information call 806.775.3560. An Open Book: An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October - Promising to be raw, emotional, and interactive, Justin Furstenfeld, vocalist/songwriter/guitarist for the Platinum-selling band Blue October, will perform "An Open Book: An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October" with special guest Ashleigh Stone in the intimate Cactus Theater.
