July 17….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase: Jazz Alley - The Buddy Holly Center is offering another summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series running now through August 28th. Showcase is free to the public. There is a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. No outside beverages are allowed. Performances are every Thursday from 5:30 pm – 7:30 p.m. in the Meadows Courtyard. Buddy Holly Center, 19th & Crickets Ave).

July 18…“A Night at the Opry” - "Best Country show this side of the Mississippi"! Come join your Cactus favorites and newcomers to "A Night at the Opry" at the Cactus Theater! You'll hear the songs that put "The Grand Ole Opry" on the map! Hosted by "Minnie Pearl"(Jane Prince Jones) and "Porter Waggoner"(Kurt Kiser) for a wonderful, fun-filled concert! July 18, 19 (Repeats July 25, 26)....."God of Carnage" - A playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their principles in tatters. *Recommended for mature audiences due to language. July 19….Doggie Day Camp - The volunteers from HSWT will introduce neighborhood children to necessity for proper pet housing and care, including basic training needs. The goals include improving pet lives while preparing children for skills associated with parenting. Following discussions and demonstrations, children will be given opportunity to practice lessons learned with hands-on, adult supervised, dog meeting and walking exercises. Doggie Day Camp will be followed on Sat, July 19th with an HSWT sponsored Discount Microchip Clinic from 11 – 4 p.m. at 2414- 34th Street. Doggie Day camp will take place at Carlisle Park, 26th & Ave W at 12 p.m.

July 19….Saturday at the Museum
– Everyone is invited to this free public come –and-go event. Enjoy fun, hands-on activities, and challenges! Activities are FREE of charge and are for children ages 8 & up and family members. July 19….Sounds of West Texas -
The second show of this concert series for 2014 will feature local talent performing country, pop nostalgia, soft classic rock, and patriotic music. This show will have a couple of patriotic spots, including a tribute to our military. Featured performers will be: Larry Allen, Steve Burrus, Lesley Carraway, Mike Carraway, Carly Durham, Ray Espinoza, Kaci Keltz, Darryl Lippe, Donnetta Lippe, Donnie Martin, Misty Martin, Bonnie McCrae, Barry Moffitt, Jason Newton, Jason Nutt, Johnny Richardson, Tom Slagle, Betty Smith, Keith Smith, Terry Westbrook, Brent Wheeler, Emily Wheeler, Blake Whitmire and Steve Winters. Tickets are $15 for the general public, and $7 for children between 4-12. The price is $12 a piece for those purchase tickets in groups of 10 or more. There will be a special price of $10 for all veterans! Tickets are on sale at all Select-a-Seat outlets at Amigo's Supermarket, Dollar Western Wear, Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, Market Street, Ralph's Records, Texas Tech Student Union's ticket booth and United Supermarkets. July 19….Mac Davis in Concert (SOLD OUT) -
Lubbock's native son is an award winning country music singer, songwriter and actor. His early work, writing for Elvis Presley, produced the hits "Memories", "In the Ghetto" and "A Little Less Conversation". His solo career in the 70's produced mega hits, such as "Don't Get Hooked On Me", "I Believe in Music", "Stop and Smell the Roses" and many more...making him a legend in the music industry. He also starred in his own variety show, "The Mac Davis Show", a Broadway musical and various films and TV shows. Let's show Mac how proud we are of him! July 20….National Ice Cream Day Event - Did you know that everyone’s favorite Summer time treat, Ice Cream, has its own National day? This year, Sunday, July 20th is National Ice Cream Day. President Ronald Reagan began this tradition with a proclamation in 1984. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=40141. The Science Spectrum will be celebrating the tradition by putting a “fun science spin” on the event this Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in its lobby with free Cold Science activities. A live Super Cold Show Demonstration, where the science of cold, states of matters, and the properties of liquid nitrogen, one the coldest know substances, will be discussed. Demonstrations will be at 2 and 4 p.m. Then from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m., using the magic of science, see ice cream made instantly right before your eyes using liquid nitrogen. Best of all…, free samples of the ice cream will be available for tasting! National Ice Cream Day activities in the Science Spectrum lobby are Free, but standard museum and OMNI Theater admission ticket rates still apply. For more information visit www.sciencespectrum.org.
