June 5 ….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase: John Sprott - The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series running now through August 28th. Showcase is free to the public. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages are allowed. Buddy Holly Center, 19th & Crickets Avenue. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm in the Meadows Courtyard.

June 6….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. June 6 – 7….Silent Wings Museum Commemoration of the Seventieth Anniversary of D-DayThis will be a free two-day event honoring the great sacrifice made by the Allied forces on the shores of Normandy, France during a critical moment in the War in Europe. There will be opportunities to view the documentary D-Day Remembered, Greatest Generation’s C-47, Southern Cross, Commemorative Air Force’s C-60, Good Time Gal and military vehicles. There will be children’s educational activities. The Lubbock Moonlight Musical's youth promotional ensemble, Moonlight Directions, will perform a classic WWII USO concert composed of famous wartime hits like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “I'll Be Seeing You.” The Snapshots of D-Day: Photographs of the Normandy Invasion exhibition will be on display during the D-Day event. The exhibition captures some of the most dramatic moments of the June 6, 1944 invasion. This special exhibition features 60 images of combat on the beaches and in the hedgerows of Normandy. Making use of US Army Signal Corps, US Coast Guard and US Navy photographs as well as photos taken by individuals, this exhibit includes well-known and never-before-published images. The Silent Wings Museum is collaborating with the Science Spectrum in honor of the seventieth anniversary of D-Day. The Science Spectrum OMNI Theater will be showing D-Day: Normandy 1944 narrated by Tom Brokaw through July 15th. Bring your receipt of admission to D-Day Normandy 1944 for $2 off admission to the Silent Wings Museum.

June 7…. Lubbock Heritage Society Trip - Lubbock Heritage Society is offering a trip on June 7th to the Goodnight Historical Center and to Claude, TX. We will tour the Goodnight house and grounds and then have a chuck wagon lunch. The chuck wagon meal will consist of brisket and the trimmings. Soon after eating, participants will board the bus and travel to Claude. The Armstrong Historical Museum will be open for our pleasure. There will be opportunity to view the art gallery, the historical Gem Theatre, and the old school. We hope to start home by 3:30 or 4 p.m. Since we are taking the scenic route, in a tour bus filled with people, the trip may last 3 hours. The cost for the trip is $45.00 per person and includes the bus, which is air conditioned and has a restroom, entrance fees to all the museums and the chuck wagon lunch. Reservations are on a first come first served basis. Deadline for reservations was June 3rd...so seats may or may not be available. June 7 (Repeats June 21)….Introduction to Home Brewing Class - Sograte BBQ and Brew's Introduction to Brewing Class is an excellent introduction to beer making where we will go over everything you need to know to get started brewing your own craft beer at home. The live demonstration class will cover the process of home brewing from brew day to bottling. Discussion of the basic equipment, ingredients involved, and helpful tips and tricks to make the process better in your own kitchen. Classes are limited in size to provide an intimate setting and more individualized attention. Pre-registration is required due to limited class size, and will be on a first come first served basis. June 7….Old Folks Boogie Too – This benefit concert will feature the musical stylings of The Showdown Band. We will also have local car clubs showing off their pride and joys along with a silent auction, a cash bar, desserts and more available for purchase. Tickets are $20 pre-sale for entry and Cagle fajitas; $24 at the door, and The Inside Out Foundation receives a portion of all the proceeds. The IOF is based right here in Lubbock and their mission is to restore clients’ inner and outer beauty through aesthetic products and healing outreach services. une 8….School of Rock Lubbock Benefit Concert - Amazing line up: Static Union, The Walking Shred and the Darren Welch Group, plus the Dean's List! Fun Door Prizes. June 8….Sunday Concert in the Park - Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association.
