May 30 - 31….Christ in the Arts: REBORN – LIFE As It Was Meant to Be
- “REBORN pulls out all the stops in an attempt to express the promise, the wonder and the hope of ‘LIFE as it was meant to be’. In contrast to drudgery and the daily grind of common human existence, the instinct in all of us is to pursue a kind of life that deeply satisfies and answers to our highest ideals. This production, utilizing the best of CITA’s unique dramatic dance and the most powerful music we could find artistically explores what can make that LIFE a reality for every person. I believe REBORN will be like a cool, refreshing drink to every thirsty heart,” describes Randall Hinds, Executive Director of Christ in the Arts. REBORN will feature more than 70 local performers from the Lubbock based pre-professional ballet school plus two guest artists Mark Leber and Sam Corridoni from the internationally acclaimed, Ballet Magnificat!. …."The Boys Next Door" - The place is a communal residence in a New England city, where four mentally handicapped men live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly "burned out" social worker. Mingled with scenes from the daily lives of these four, where "little things" sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy. We are reminded that the handicapped, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time that they, like their more fortunate brothers, are allotted on this earth. Cost: $12 - $15. For tickets call 806-792-0501 or visit catsplayhouse.com. CATS Playhouse. 2257 34th Street; 7:30 p.m.

Foreign Exchange Students Need Hosts

My name is Paige Kohout, and I work as a coordinator for an amazing organization called World Link. It was started by a married couple who now live in Iowa. The husband (from Iowa) and wife (from Russia) met while working together overseas with high school exchange students. When they married, they moved back to the United States and created World Link, a government-sponsored organization, to help fulfill the dreams of high school students who have longed to come to America to study abroad and experience our culture.

I live in Lubbock and have coordinated 19 students over the past few years and love getting to know these students and seeing the impact that is made in the lives of the students, host families and the schools they attend. However, it is a challenge every year to find host families. There are many out there who would love to host but we do not have the funds to advertise and must rely on the word of mouth.
