November 8….New Neighbors Annual Live Auction and Book Sale - The auction will consist of baked goods and craft items. All proceeds are awarded to community programs supported by New Neighbors. Lunch will follow the auction and the cost is $15. A variety of card games will also be played. Reservations are required. You do not have to be new to the Lubbock area or a member to participate. November 8….An Evening with Anthony Kearns
- Operation Hope would like to invite you to join us for An Evening with Anthony Kearns. Anthony is a member of the world famous Irish Tenors. His solo career has also seen tremendous success, and this concert will provide an fantastic opportunity for the Lubbock area to see a performer of this caliber. Mr. Kearns will be accompanied by world class pianist and former London Philharmonic performer Patrick Healy. Dress code for the evening with be Cocktail Attire. November 8 – 9….PIHOS A Moving Biography - This documentary dance/film performance examines the life of Melissa Pihos’ father, Former All –Pro Philadelphia Eagles receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Pete Pihos and his fight with Alzheimer’s disease. In the summer of 2012 the show toured to Charlotte and Winston-Salem, NC, Philadelphia, PA and New York City, NY as benefit events for the Alzheimer’s Association. These events are a way to raise financial support for the Alzheimer’s Association as well as create awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, the devastating disease that took the life of her father in August 2011. Concluding the performance will be a screening of “Dear Dad,” Pihos’ award-winning short documentary film. “The film explores the effects of Alzheimer’s by juxtaposing photos and footage of her father from his days as a player for the Philadelphia Eagles, during the late 1940s to mid-1950s, with images of him today. Melissa Pihos will be performing short solos throughout the concert, layering her personal experiences with her father’s life. The concert features film and video montages using video footage of interviews conducted by Melissa Pihos, archival WWII footage and football footage of Pete Pihos, along with images examining memory and the effect of Alzheimer’s on the brain. Among the people Pihos interviewed are Coach Mike Ditka, fellow teammate Al Wistert, Pihos’ neurologist Dr. John Porter, and Pat Summerall. The audience is introduced to the person Pete Pihos had become because of the complexities of Alzheimer’s disease and the amazing person he was before the disease. November 9….Ruffles and Rust Expo - Lubbock will get a touch of vintage decor with a lot of bling at the Ruffles and Rust Expo. This is a vintage show with a boutique feel. The Ruffles and Rust Expo brings over 80 different vendors from three different states to one location. November 9….Texas Tech Red Raider Football - The 25th-ranked, hometown Texas Tech Red Raiders tackle the always-dangerous Kansas State Wildcats in a clash at Jones AT&T Stadium. The stadium is located at Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue; 11 a.m.

November 9…Sounds of West Texas: "Gospel and Inspirational Music Show" - The concert will feature local talent singing old time and current gospel, or inspirational songs in the country, pop and rock genres. There will be a silent auction for a George Strait autographed guitar (with a letter of authenticity) to benefit 5 year old Addie Seacrist, who is the grand daughter of Ron Seacrist, chief of police at Texas Tech University. The evening of music will begin with an acoustic set at 6 p.m. and the show with the house band will begin at 7 p.m. Confirmed featured performers will be: Emcees: Lynn Alexander and Jacqui Neal House, Larry Allen, Dennis Brown, Susan Browning, Lesley Carraway, Mike Carraway, Martin Duckett, Ray Espinoza, Lance Fry, Casandra Hastings, Kaci Keltz, Jay Lemon, Darryl Lippe, Donnetta Lippe, Bryan Martin, Donnie Martin, (Ron Seacrist- maybe..depending on time of Tech game!), The Sides Family (Shanna, Reagan, Hunter), Betty Smith, Keith Smith, Riley Solberg, Brian Tate ("The Watchmen", Tina Turner, Terry Westbrook, Billy Wilborn, Steve Williams, and Steve Winters. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for college students with IDs, and $7 for children between 4-12. The price is $12 a piece for those purchase tickets in groups of 10 or more. November 9…."Hors d'oeuvres, Theater & Dessert" - A new concept is coming to the Cactus Theater!!! As always we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality entertainment and now we are literally putting a cherry on top!!! When you walk into the Cactus, you will be served hors d'oeuvres and wine to the music of virtuoso pianist, Marilyn Arland, as you await our play. At intermission, you will be served dessert! So come let us feed you and your soul with a wonderful night out at the Cactus Theater. All food will be catered by Lubbock's premier chef, Tyrone Willis. To kick this series off, we are featuring our beloved, Jane Prince Jones, in "Tea at Five". This play, by Matthew Lombardo, is a one woman show based on the life of famed actress Katharine Hepburn. Based on Hepburn's own words from her book. "Me: Stories of My Life". The two-act play begins in 1938, spanning several decades to 1983. This wonderful play gives insight to the secret emotions and drive behind the legendary artist. You will be amazed at how Jane captures the essence of the one and only Katherine Hepburn. November 9 – 10…Take in the Local Color: Lubbock’s Artist Studio Tour – Fifty-five artists and ten studios will be participating in the 17th Annual Take in the Local Color: Lubbock’s Artist Studio Tour. This yearly event gives audiences the unique opportunity to observe artists in their working environments, many of which are in private homes. All participating artists are from Lubbock County and all the studios are in Lubbock. There will be approximately 6 artists showcased at each studio location. Artists will be displaying original work in the media of painting, drawing, pottery, fiber, jewelry, glass, leather, wood, photography and sculpture.

Demonstrations, performances by local musicians and reception food at each studio location add to the ambiance and festivity of the event. The local Color Studio Tour is free and open to the public who are invited to travel on their own from studio to studio to see the artwork. For more information click here.

November 11….Veterans Day at Silent Wings Museum - All ages are invited to this free event at the Silent Wings Museum. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with the Veterans Day Presidential Proclamation read by the Honorable Mayor Glen Robertson followed by the Toys Go To War Gallery Talk at 2 p.m. from Donald Abbe, Ph.D. At 5:30 p.m. there will be hors d’oeuvres and Jazz Alley will perform Live Swing Music, Guest Speaker LCDR Barry McCool, USN. November 11…. Texas Tech University School of Music: Matador Singers Veterans Day Concert - Men’s choral music. Kris Hulse, major of the Texas Tech ROTC and professor of military science, will serve as a guest narrator for the program. The Texas Tech ROTC Color Guard will present the colors at the beginning of the program. Admission is free. Hemmle Recital Hall, Texas Tech Campus; 8 p.m.
