August 29….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert (Last of the Season)
The Center is an exciting and beautiful facility located in the heart of Lubbock’s historic Depot District. Home to the most extensive permanent exhibition on the life and music of Buddy Holly, the Center also features a contemporary Fine Arts Gallery, the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery and the outdoor Buddy & Maria Elena Holly Plaza. At 5:30 p.m. the Summer Showcase Concert Series will feature longtime Lubbock favorite Mike Pritchard and Hat Trick (Rock 'n' Roll). Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

August 29….4th Annual Great Harvest Marketplace -
Hosted by McPherson Cellars. Music by Andy Wilkinson. Complimentary samples of local food, wine and beer. Chef demonstrations utilizing Texas gulf shrimp and other local products. August 30….5th Friday Slaton Art Show
–The Art Galleries surrounding the Slaton Town Square will be hosting a hand-selected number of artists and their compositions. Artists having works on display include over 20 local art professionals, Texas Tech University Art Faculty and Texas Tech art students. Galleries include WaterSpace Gallery, Multiplicity Gallery, Jennifer Greer Gallery, V2 Gallery. We are also fortunate to have local musicians from Texas Tech joining us for the evening serenading visitors as the wander from gallery to gallery. Sidewalk vendors will also be spread out around the square. Come spend your summer evening with us on the Square. Slaton Square, 9th and Garza; 6 – 9 p.m.

August 30….Cactus Theater: Rockin' ‘50s Countdown - Ladies put on your poodle skirts and guys- grab your leather jackets and head to the Cactus for a hoppin' night at the theater!!! We'll start from 25 and count down to the #1 hit of the Rockin' fifties! There will be photo opps for you and your honey with a '50s automobile!... and free popcorn and cokes to 10 lucky guests! We'll be dancin' in the isles! Don't miss out on the fun! Use the password "magic" at the concession stand for a free large popcorn when you attend the Rockin' ‘50s Countdown! August 31 – September 1….West Texas Warbirds 2013 - The modelers and guests of Wings Miniature Aircraft Society, Lubbock, Texas welcome you to share our passion for military model aviation and invite you to attend our radio controlled model air show! West Texas Warbirds is an annual event hosted in late summer at our club field in Abernathy, TX. This event helps raise awareness and promote the hobby of model aviation to the general public. It helps to honor and remember the heroic men and women who have served their country in military aviation conflict for over a hundred years. And, it provides an opportunity for the modeling community to congregate and meet new modelers. West Texas Warbirds provides a fun, nostalgic and entertaining event for families to enjoy. Expect close viewing of the model aircraft and a full unobstructed view of the flying demonstrations. Early morning flying is limited due to the low angle of the sun. The best times for viewing the aircraft are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Please understand that this is a fair weather event! Flying activity may cease with excessive temperatures, high wind speeds, cross-winds or precipitation. On site BBQ and other food and drinks will be available. It is recommended that spectators bring their own lawn chairs and sunscreen as shade may be limited. The highlight for spectators will be at 1:00 on Saturday, when the flying will stop and modelers will line up their aircraft for display. The participation of the crowd is next, allowing closer inspection of the aircraft, questions and answers with the pilots and voting for the "People's Choice Award." Ballots will be provided for all to submit their vote for their favorite military model aircraft. West Texas Warbirds is a super event for families of school-aged children, scouting and senior groups and will spark the interest of many. General Admission $6.00, kids 12 & under – Free. Abernathy Aerodrome, approximately 4 miles east of the city of Abernathy, Texas, on FM 2060, at the north end of the Abernathy Municipal Airport.

SUNDAY Only

September 1….Don Williams in Concert - The "Gentle Giant" - country's laid back, legendary voice - returns "home" once again to the South Plains for an intimate concert. A native of Floydada, his hits include a long list of classics including "Amanda", "Til the Rivers All Run Dry", "Tulsa Time", "Good Ole Boys Like Me", "I Believe in You", "Love Is On a Roll" and dozens more. Tickets available through Select-A-Seat outlets and are priced at $73.00, $62.00, $51.25. Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theater, 1501 Mac Davis Lane; 7:30 p.m.
