May 10-11 (repeats May 17-18)...Hub Performing Arts School's Production of "Little Mermaid Jr." - Come join Ariel, Eric, Sebastian, and Flounder as they take you under the sea and on land in this musical adaptation of one of Disney's most beloved animated adventures! Little Mermaid Jr. is filled with the songs you know and love such as "Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", and "Kiss the Girl" as well as some new ones like "Human Stuff" and "She's in Love!" The songs will keep you singing long after the adventure ends! Tickets are only $5. They may be purchased by calling (806) 577-2978 or emailing hub@hubperformingartsschool.com. May 10-11 (Repeats May 17-18, 24-25 (Adult cast); and May 26 (Children's cast)….Cactus Theatre: "All Shook Up"
- These performances represents the culmination of the semester's study of the Cactus Kids Theatrical Company. The students will shadow the adult
performers of the first four performances of the series and will be featured in the last weekend's performances. In the musical,"All Shook Up", written by Joe Dipietro, a guitar -playing roustabout rides into a square little town in a square little state and changed everything and everyone he meets. Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley, this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as "Heartbreak Hotel, " Jailhouse Rock" and "Don't Be Cruel". (Repeats May 17-19)....Lubbock Community Theatre: "Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will?" - As a dysfunctional family gathers to await the imminent death of their patriarch, who has recently suffered a disabling stroke, cat fights and rumors swirl around who will get what when the will is read. Without becoming ponderous, losing a sense of humor or pandering to timeworn clichés about Texans or Texas drawls, the story shares many elements of a good summer novel: it's fast and delicious...with funny, tense, touching moments and characters you care about. May 11….Vendors & Vets - Please join in supporting the Veterans and Vendors event. This fundraiser is growing and there will be one of kind gifts and products from vendors all over the South Plains. Lubbock Lake Landmark: Migratory Bird Day and Night Hike - Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with special presentations and activities from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Join the Landmark and the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to and learn about our winged friends! Join guides at dusk to explore the Landmark after dark! Gather at the Robert A. Nash Interpretive Center at 7:45 p.m., to begin the adventure. Be sure to wear comfortable, sturdy, closed-toed shoes and bring a bottle of water. Night hikes are always held weather permitting. May 11….2nd Annual Texas Blues and Brews Festival - The Texas Blues and Brews Festival will feature amateur and professional brewers from all across West Texas and live music from six local bands. May 12….Texas Tech School of Music and the Museum of Texas Tech Present “A Musical Celebration” - This concert is dedicated to Mother’s Day, the partnership of the TTU School of Music and Museum of TTU, and the friendship of these special musicians. This concert will feature beautiful music for all to enjoy with Chuck Seipp on trumpet, Katrin Meidell on viola, Tiffany Holmes on flute, and Nataliya Sukhina on piano. Holmes, Meidell, Seipp and Sukhina, all on staff and faculty in the TTU School of Music, perform at the Museum of Texas Tech University. Varied solo and ensemble works in an eclectic program have “a little something for everyone” remarks Seipp, including music by Handel, Dvoark, Beethoven, Clarke, Anderson, Debussy, Broughton, Ewazen, Vaughan Williams, and Albinoni.
