January 31….Rangers Winter Caravan Luncheon - The College Baseball Hall of Fame will host the Texas Rangers Winter Caravan luncheon featuring All-Star pitcher Matt Harrison, 1st baseman Mitch Moreland, pitching coach Mike Madduz and the voice of the Rangers, Eric Nadel. Individual tickets are available for $15 and can be purchased at any United Supermarket, Market Street or Amigo’s location guest services desk. Tables of eight are also available for $200-$500 depending on seating location. Those purchasing a $500 Grand Slam Table also receive eight tickets to special Meet the Rangers gathering beginning at 11a.m. Table purchase can be made through the Hall website at www.collegebaseballhall.org. January 31 (Repeats February 28; March 28)….Cactus Theater: Imagine Lubbock Music - The Cactus Theater presents this new series, Imagine Lubbock Music, which will be held the last Thursday of each month and will feature outstanding original music by many composers from this area. The initial concert on Thursday, January 31st will feature Brandon Adams and two other popular regional songwriters. Tickets are $5.00 and can be reserved at 806-362-3233. February 1….First Friday Art Trail
- See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. ebruary 1-2 (Repeats February 8-9)…. Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents the World Premiere of “Dancing at the Crossroads” - Dancing at the Crossroads is an impressionistic, evocative, engaging theatrical spectacle of live music and dance, celebrating the meetings and transformations between European and African cultures which are the deep roots of American popular music. Including narrative and magical songs from Ireland and England; tales of transformation and crossroads magic; blues and gospel from the Mississippi Delta; sean-nos (“old style”) song from Ireland’s Gaelic West; dances and dance music from Ireland, Scotland, and Cape Breton; ritual dances from the Welsh Borders; country dances from England and Appalachia and sea shanties from the North Atlantic, and an audience sing-along as finale. A Celebration of Anglo-Celtic and African America Dance in the New World). Singers, players, dancers, and storytellers will present a fully-staged dance/theater narrative relating the mythic history of the encounter of these two great vernacular performance traditions in the New World, including blues, jazz, hip-hop, New Orleans, Irish, English, Scottish, and Caribbean musics and dance. The Crossroads staff include Chris Smith, music director; Bill Gelber, theatrical consultant; Genevieve Durham DeCesaro, choreographic consultant; Rich Remsberg, film/photo archivist; and Daniel Hogan, Moonlight Musicals director of production. February 2….Children’s Dental Health Fair
- Join the South Plains District Dental Society for their annual Children’s Dental Health Fair at the Science Spectrum. This annual health awareness fair is always a huge family hit. Not only will families receive invaluable oral health information and lots of free “toothy” giveaways, but will also have a blast doing it! Best of all, the event and regular Science Spectrum Museum admission is totally *FREE to all children up to age 12. February 2….Cactus Theater: West Texas Tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets - The music never died! Buddy Holly's music lives on and the Cactus Theater presents its annual concert honoring Buddy and the Crickets. This year, in conjunction with the show, the Cactus Theater will kick off the Civic Lubbock Inc. campaign to sell personalized bricks for placement at the new Allison House addition to the Buddy Holly Center. The funds generated will help complete the renovation and furnish the interior of the childhood home of Jerry Allison where the Crickets wrote "That'll Be the Day." February 2…Championship Bull Riding 2013 - The CBR is dedicated to maintaining the strength, stamina and integrity of professional level bull riding and promoting the cowboys who participate in the sport.. ebruary 3….Buddy Holly Center: The Day the Music Died – February 3rd, 2013 marks the 54th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper). The Buddy Holly Center would like to invite the public to an event celebrating their lives and legacies. Patrons are invited to the Center FREE of charge on Sunday, February 3rd from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, February 3rd includes a guided tour at 1:15 pm followed by a Gallery Talk with the artist featured in the exhibition P3: Photography, Painting, Pottery; John Chinn, Ashton Thornhill and Wendell Warman-Adams. The Day The Music Died reception will be at 3:30 p.m. Shoebox Guitars, a free interactive activity for all ages, will be available in the Education Space throughout the day’s event. The Buddy Holly Center will have three exhibitions on display all day. The Buddy Holly Gallery features a permanent exhibit on the life and music of Buddy Holly. P3: Photography, Painting, Pottery, a diverse body of works that include ceramics, prints and photographs, will be on display in the Fine Art Gallery. Displayed in the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery is the exhibition, Walk of Fame II – The Crickets. This rotating exhibition highlights individuals inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame, now located across the street from the Buddy Holly Center. The second installment features photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia of The Crickets: Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin, Niki Sullivan and Sonny Curtis.

10 Years After: Exhibit Chronicles Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster

February 1 – March 17….Philip C. Price Lubbock Chapter of the Texas Aviation Heritage Foundation, Inc. West Texas Astronauts Exhibit - (TAHFI) is sponsoring in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Columbia space shuttle disaster an exhibit honoring West Texas astronauts, COL Rick Husband and CDR William McCool, who perished in the Columbia space shuttle disaster on February 1, 2003. The exhibit will be housed in Lubbock's Silent Wings Museum. It will open on Friday, February 1, 2013 with an open reception from 3-5 p.m. and will continue as a featured exhibit at the Museum for six weeks, until March 17, 2013. Silent Wings Museum is located at 6202 N Interstate 27 (Exit 9), Lubbock - two blocks east of I-27. Look for the building with the silver "G-Wings" on the tower. Museum Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. -5 p.m.; Sunday :1-5 p.m.. Closed Monday.
