January 26….Rose Pruning Workshop
- Nell Rains, a certified Texas Master Gardener and Earth-Kind Landscape Team member will teach a hands-on workshop in the Arboretum Rose Garden. Earth-Kind is a Texas A&M University program that uses research-proven landscaping and gardening techniques that preserve and protect the environment. The Arboretum Rose Garden was renovated in 2010 with a grant from The CH Foundation. With Nell’s guidance, an entire set of Earth-Kind roses was included in the new garden as a demonstration of the exceptional performance of Earth-Kind rose selections. Attached is an article from Texas Gardener Magazine about Nell Rains and the Arboretum’s Earth-Kind Rose Garden. Workshop participants will learn when to prune, how different types of roses are pruned, and how to prune correctly to ensure beautiful shaped plants with many blooms, and much more. January 26.....Benefit Concert, Barbecue Dinner and Barn Dance featuring the Hogg Maulies - Come enjoy a fun-filled evening featuring great music, full barbecue dinner and dance at the spacious and inviting Inside Four-Bar-K facility. This event and all proceeds benefit 18-year old Kelsey Odom - with the evening's theme is appropriately titled "Help Kelsey Lasso Luekemia." The featured musical act is the ever-popular Hogg Maulies band...with other area artists on hand to lend their their talents as well. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. For advance tickets call Brianna at (806) 559-3773. Don't miss this chance to support this dynamic young lady while enjoying a great barbecue dinner and dance. January 26….Christ in the Arts Winter Performance: “Metamorphosis” - (CITA) will present a free winter performance featuring performances from the CITA Ballet Company and students. “Metamorphosis” highlights more than 115 local performers from the pre-professional ballet company down to the youngest performer age four. Unlike a typical recital format, this performance is deeply moving with the combination of inspired dance performances, spiritual music selections and appealing visual effects. January 26….Cactus Theater: Jimmy Dale Gilmore Unplugged - Legendary West Texas sing, songwriter, and member of the Flatlanders Jimmy Dale Gilmore performs an incredible evening of his one-of-a-kind folkie/Americana style of music. This will be the first of a series of concerts featuring the Flatlanders Jimmy Dale, Joe Ely, and Butch Hancock individually and will culminate with a concert featuring the Flatlanders all together. January 26-27….Celebrity Attractions presents: “West Side Story” - Lubbock audiences are in for a special treat when Texas Tech graduate Jeff Smith appears in the role of Snowboy in this national touring production. More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it's back, and mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORYsoars as the greatest love story of all time and remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The new Broadway cast album of WEST SIDE STORY won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway's finest and features such classics of the American musical theatre as "Something's Coming," "Tonight," "America," "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere." Audience recommendation: Celebrity Attractions recommends West Side Story for audiences of ages 13 and over. This is only to be used as a suggestion for you and your child.
