June 28….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series: Thrift Store Cowboys (Alternative Country) - The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another hot summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and modern environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. FREE to the public. There is a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages are allowed in the venue. Buddy Holly Center Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Ave; 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

June 28 - 30….Texas Tech University Dept. of Theatre and Dance Summer Rep 2012: Goldilocks on Trial - Goldilocks is on trial for breaking and entering. Will she be found guilty and sent to prison, or will the truth come out? It’s up to Judge Wallabee and some very silly jurors to decide, after hearing testimony from Goldee, the bickering Three Bears, and surprise witness Merwin, the Big Bad Wolf, among others. Written by Ed Monk and directed by Marcus Thrash. Tickets are $10 for individuals; $5 for students with a valid ID and can be reserved by calling (806) 742-3603. June 29….Slaton's Fifth Friday Art Trail - All of the shops on Slaton's square will be open for an enjoyable evening of art, food, and shopping. For example, the Slaton Bakery will be open and making homemade ice cream, the other art galleries will be displaying art, the antique stores will be open and other events as well. In conjunction with Slaton's Fifth Friday Art Trail, will be the Grand Opening of a new art gallery called Multiplicity. Slaton, Texas; 6 - 9 p.m.

June 29….Alan Jackson in Concert – The laid-back country singer and hit-cranking songwriter returns to the Hub City and the United Spirit Arena for the first time since 2009. June 29….Cactus Theater presents: Roy Rivers' Tribute to John Denver - Roy is back...returning to the Cactus stage and this time with a full band....our very own Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine. June 29 - July 1….Texas' Last Frontier Heritage Celebration & Texas Buffalo Soldier Living History Encampment, Morton, Texas - Step back into the early life and times on Texas' far western frontier! Tour an authentic Texas Buffalo Soldier camp--brought to you by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Buffalo Soldier Living History Program, U.S. 10th Cavalry Fort Concho Buffalo Soldiers, and the U.S. 2nd Cavalry Camel Corps. The theme of this year's event is "Frontier Fun & Games". The young and the young-at-heart are invited to a vintage baseball game Friday night in Levelland with the Buffalo Soldiers vs. "I Beat Pete" Christy-KCBD-TV team. On Saturday join in a downtown parade in Morton and then come to the county park to enjoy a talent show featuring local musicians singing and playing favorite gospel, country and patriotic songs, an "iron riders" bicycle parade, a re-enactment of the 1877 Buffalo Soldier Expedition, young ladies' fiesta tea, early settlers' storytelling, archery competition, pack camel demonstrations, animal tracking, and a live country music band and dancing for the entire family, among other festivities. A culminating highlight of the weekend is an outdoor Sunday morning community worship service followed by a barbecue and soul food dinner. Cost: All non-meal events are free. June 30….College Baseball's Night Of Champions - Baseball's Night of Champions will feature the induction of this year's College Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, including Georgia Tech and Boston Red Sox great Nomar Garciaparra, as well as Rice coach Wayne Graham and St. Louis Cardinals legend Lou Brock. Class of 2012 Awards scheduled to be presented during the Night of Champions include: the Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the nation’s most outstanding shortstop; the John Olerud Award, recognizing the nation’s top two-way player; the National Pitcher of the Year; the NCBWA Stopper of the Year; the Johnny Bench Award and the 26th annual Dick Howser Trophy, college baseball’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. June 30 - July 1….Silver Spur Gun & Blade Show - What is a "gun show"? It is a place where exhibitors come from all around to sell their wares, you can buy things, sell, or even trade guns, knives, swords and of the like. There are lots of guns (new and used), ammo, holsters, accessories, hunting stuff, jewelry for the ladies, knives, coins, collectibles, books and military items and much, much more. Admission: $5 adults, under 12 is free. Admission is 2-for-1 the first hour both days - $1 off active military or NRA w/ID. Only 1 discount/special can be used at a time. July 1 ….Westwinds Brass Band Concert in the Park – Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets & lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association. Admission is FREE and everyone is welcome. Wagner Park, 26th St. and Flint Ave; 8 p.m.- 9 p.m.

July 11, 18, 25; August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 – High Noon Concerts – Every Wednesday from June to August you can enjoy live music at the Lubbock County Courthouse Gazebo (904 Broadway). Concerts start at...you guessed it, "high noon." It's a great way to experience a great variety of homegrown, West Texas music....and it's FREE for the listenin'!

Military Family Membership Plan Offered at the Science Spectrum

June 30 - July 8th….Science Spectrum Military Family Membership Program - Military families on Summer Break during the Fourth of July Holiday week, June 30th through July 8th, 2012, can now take advantage of a new program that honors their service to our country. During this time period, the Science Spectrum Museum and OMNI Theater will treat all Active Duty and Reserve Armed Forces personnel, as well as Disabled Veterans, as “Museum Members”. This membership program will entitle a family of up to five (5) people to the same benefits as our standard museum members. Benefits include:

- Free standard Museum admission for a family of five (5).
- Discounted OMNI Theater movie tickets at the member rate of $6.00 for adults and children.

Annual "4th On Broadway" Lineup Offers Fun, Family-friendly Events

July 4….4th on Broadway Festivities - The largest free festival in Texas is a true celebration of Independence Day. Featuring a fun-filled day of events for the whole family, general admission to all the events are FREE! Kick off the day at the opening parade down the historic, brick-paved Broadway Avenue. Following the parade, spend the day at the street fair on Broadway: a festival of fabulous musicians on 8 stages, food vendors, games and much more.

2012 Independence Day Events Schedule:

- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Street fair on Broadway, free.
- 9 to 11 a.m. — 4th on Broadway Parade, west on Broadway from Avenue Q to University Avenue. Free.
- 4:30 to 10 p.m. — Picnic in the Park at Mackenzie Park. Food court open, free. The hours preceding the fireworks now are called Picnic in the Park, with vendors and children’s activities. A children’s area, including multiple games and inflatable, enclosed bouncers will be operated from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m.
- 7:30 p.m. — Street dance at Broadway and Texas Avenue; music by Josh Abbott Band, William Clark Band and Brandon Adams.; ticketed event.
- 7:30 p.m. — A formal concert by YOL will be held from 7:30 p.m. to sunset July 4 in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater at Mackenzie Park. Concert tickets are $20, with tickets guaranteeing seating in the amphitheater and also parking for vehicles in the area above it. Limited seating.
- Sunset (dark) — Annual Fireworks Extravaganza; free.
