Mama had always preached about the evils of gambling and poker, recalling her father’s escapades of spending all the family’s money on one game of poker. Sam is a lot like Papa, but still wants to please Mama. Because his boss, Belle, is out of town, Sam takes charge. He persuades the players to use "matchsticks", to fool Mama into thinking they are not really gambling. Mama shows up making the poker players an offer they can’t refuse. Tickets are $20.00 and can be reserved by calling (806) 762-3233. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY

May 11-13 (repeats May 18-20)....Lubbock Community Theatre presents: “Harvey” - When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half- foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild- mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all. Written by Mary Chase and directed by Leah Tyson. Rated: G. To reserve tickets call (806) 749-2416 or visit lubbockcommunitytheatre.org. Lubbock Community Theatre, 4232 Boston Ave; Friday and Saturday 8 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m.
