April 12….Go For It! College Preparation Resource Fair - South Plains College Reese Center will present Go For It! How to Do School ~ a free Resource Fair providing one-stop planning for college.

Highlights and topics covered include:

· How do I know if I am ready?
· How do I know what courses to take?
· How will I pay for it?
· Where do I go for help?
· Will I be older than other students?
· What about my kids?

Get answers to these and other questions about technical programs offered at SPC! Spanish interpreters will be available and refreshments will be served. Representatives from SPC Admissions, Special Services, Financial Aid, Testing and Learning, Counseling, as well as coordinators and instructors from SPC technical programs, will be at hand to answer questions and man tables full of resource materials and give-a-ways. In addition, Catholic Charities, WORKFORCE Solutions Career and Child Care Services, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, LEARN, Inc., My Father’s House Lubbock, Literacy Lubbock and other community agencies will be represented. April 12…."Route 66 Pipes and Sticks" Tour - The Cactus Theater presents the world’s most accomplished pipers and drummers. An all-star cast of bagpipers and drummers are taking to the road performing concerts and teaching at workshops in what is being dubbed "Pipes & Sticks on Route 66." The five players are considered to be "the best of the best" in the world of piping and drumming. The group consists of pipers, Stuart Liddell, Willie McCallum, and Angus MacColl and snare drum, Jim Kilpatrick, all hail from Scotland. They are being joined by bass drummer and percussionist, Mike Cole from Chicago. Tickets are $25.00 and can be reserved by calling (806) 762-3233. Before the show from 5:30 p.m. 'til concert, start next door at the Tornado Gallery for a meet and greet with the Pipes & Sticks performers and a BBQ potluck dinner. April 13….Lubbock Community Theatre: Remembering the RMS Titanic, 100 Years - This production features a concert version of Titanic, the musical winner of five Tony Awards. Black tie or period costumes optional. Original tickets including a multi-course meal are now sold out, but tickets for the theatrical portion of the event are still available for $35 at Select-a-Seat 806.770.2000 or 800.735.1288. April 13….Rattlesnake Roundup with Robert Earl Keen -
The Rattlesnake Roundup will feature Robert Earl Keen as your headliner and the Benton Leachman Band to open. Come out early and enjoy the great music and get yourself some fried rattlesnake...while it lasts, that is! Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. You can purchase your ticket through any Sigma Nu member or through Select-A-Seat. The Rattlesnake Roundup will benefit the Beyond Battens Foundation. Get your boots on and dance and eat for a great cause. Lonestar Amphitheater, 602 East 19th Street Gates open at 7:30 p.m.

Don't Miss the Amazing Art, Events and Special Performances Featured at the Premier Event in our Region....The Lubbock Arts Festival!

April 13 – 15….Lubbock Arts Festival - Life is “sweet” at the annual Lubbock Arts Festival. This three-day celebration is the largest fine art, fine craft event in West Texas. There will be a special exhibit of artwork made entirely out of jelly beans by Kristen Cumings of California. The Lubbock Arts Festival will highlight over 150 visual artists displaying original work in the mediums of acrylic, oil, watercolor, drawing, pottery, fiber, leather, jewelry, glass, wood, and sculpture. Festival goers can purchase this amazing original art and also enjoy stages with singers, dancers, actors, and musicians; a juried galleries; diverse food and beverage vendors; and demonstrations of artists at work. For the children, ten different “kid stops” will be located throughout the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center and offer free art related to activities. The “kid stops” include ‘make and take’ projects, face painter, balloon artist, and kids karaoke. Admission is just $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12. April 14….Animal Adoption Event and Rabies Vaccination Clinic - Dr. Dwight Gailey of Mobile Vet Service will be on-site to provide $9 rabies vaccinations and needed walk-up veterinary services for your pets. April 14….Annie’s Chat & Chew - For over 20 years, Lubbock Meals on Wheels has benefitted from “Annie’s Chat and Chew”. This fundraiser was started by long time volunteer Annie Sanders and is being continued in her memory again this year. Guests can enjoy some great food while visiting with old friends and remembering a very special woman, Annie Sanders. Donations will be accepted at the door to help fund the purchase of meals for the homebound community served by Lubbock Meals on Wheels. April 14….Ballet Lubbock’s Cinderella Ball - By order of proclamation from the royal castle, everyone is requested to attend the Grand Ball in honor of Cinderella and the Prince. April 14-15….5th Annual Lubbock Comic Book Expo 2012Browse through comic books, talk to local and regional artists, and dress up as your favorite hero or villain. All ages are welcome. Speakers and presentations take place throughout the day on Saturday....including a costume contest from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Entrance to the Lubbock Arts Festival is $3 for Adults and $2 for children 12 and under....but the Comic Book Expo is FREE! Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 2nd floor mezzanine, 1501 Mac Davis Lane. Saturday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Sunday from 12-5 p.m.

Summer Fun Planning Event to be Held Next Saturday at Main Event!

We're now in the home stretch, preparing for Kids' Fun Fair 2012 - and this year, there's more fun for everyone! Our annual gathering will take place NEXT SATURDAY, Saturday, April 21st, in a new and exciting venue for our event: Main Event...so there'll be fantastic fun around every corner and at every booth represented! Expect to spend a fun-filled day learning about the best that summer has to offer...and enjoy the arcade, bowling, laser tag and mini golf while you're there, too!

Kids' Fun Fair 2012 allows business owners, parents and their kids the opportunity to learn about each other...and the diverse products and services available in our community in a lively, energetic environment. Vendors who have participated in the past include: pre-schools, summer camps, private schools, churches, children’s party entertainment services, community health professionals and a wide variety of family-friendly businesses. The fair will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 21st with some new surprises for those who've attended our annual event in the past. Make plans now to attend or exhibit.
