March 15…. Lubbock Youth Job Fair - The first Lubbock Area Youth Job Fair is designed to connect Lubbock area young people with local job opportunities. The event will cater to a pool of workers from 16 to 21 years old who seek summer and part-time employment. The job fair is hosted by Workforce Solutions South Plains in partnership with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. March 15….Gaither Homecoming Tour - Seven-time-Grammy Award winner, Bill Gaither will host a spectacular evening of music. The Gaither Homecoming concert event features an all-star line-up of Gospel music’s finest artists, including the multi-award winning Gaither Vocal Band. NOTE: The event, originally scheduled to take place at the United Spirit Arena, has moved to the City Bank Auditorium. The move was made this week in an effort to create a more intimate setting for those attending this special event. City Bank Auditorium, 2720 Drive of Champions; 7 p.m.

March 16….Shamrock Cookie Event -
The Luck of the Irish is shining on Lubbock at Cookies by Design. Celebrate the end of Spring Break and St. Patrick’s Day by decorating a Shamrock cookie! Cost is $5.00 and reservations are required by calling 794-6992. What’s so lucky about this? Cookie bouquets will be given away to the 2 people who most creatively capture the spirit of the holiday in dress, attitude, and charm! Wear your green, speak in your best Irish brogue. March 16-17….Viva Aztlan Festival -
Come out and enjoy the Mexican Mestizo culture through dance and music! The production of the event “Viva Aztlan Festival” began in 1993 and has continued to the present for folkloric dance groups to come to Lubbock to compete. For more information call (806) 793-0099. (Repeats March 23-24, 30-31)….Cactus Theater: “Lucy and the Outlaw” - Comic farce set in Belle's saloon in Dry Gulch, Texas, in the late 1800's. A newcomer, Lucy, arrives in town and finds work scrubbing floors at Belle's Saloon. Belle's regular patrons include a cattle rancher, a banker, the town deputy, and, on occasion, "Dizzy" the singing cowboy comes in for a hand of poker. The town is riddled with talk of all the recent train robberies...and you might say that's where things get interesting. Rumors have it that a man-woman team is responsible. A wanted poster with a photo shows Lucy to be one of the robbers. All the bar regulars conjure up a way to trap Lucy into confessing, but the tables are turned and the joke's on them. March 17…Saturday at the Museum - Enjoy this free public come and go event for all ages in conjunction with the exhibition "They Weren't Always White"—Wedding Attire from the Museum's Collection at the Texas Tech Museum. This exhibition highlights numerous wedding, second-day, going-away, and other trousseau garments from the Museum’s Textiles Collection. Ranging in color from white, ivory, and ecru to brown, olive green, and navy blue, and spanning over 100 years–1830 to 1949–each of the garments is unique, yet representative of its contemporary fashions, with some individual touches. Museum of Texas Tech University, 3301 4th Street; 1-4 p.m.

March 17....St. Patrick's Day Celtic Concert featuring Lubbock's own Roan Inish Damhsa - Come enjoy the traditional Irish
music of this talented Lubbock ensemble as they present music and dance during a special Saturday showcase at the ice cream shop. You might say it's literally two treats in one! No cover charge. This group will perform an interactive show perfect for all ages. They promote awareness of Celtic heritage and culture on the South Plains through traditional Irish and Scottish instruments, song and both soft and hard-shoe step dance. Audience participation is encouraged, which includes the traditional Irish drum called a bodhran and Ceili set dancing instruction. Holly Hop Ice Cream Shoppe, 3404-34th Street; 2 pm - 4 pm.

March 17….Pot o' Gold St. Patrick’s Day Party - The Overton Hotel is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day dinner. Enjoy and authentic Irish dinner prepared by executive Chef Patrick Tarantino, specialty Irish cocktails and whiskeys from Jameson and a variety of Irish beers from Guinness. Tickets are on sale now for $40 per person or $60 per couple. Call 776.7000 to reserve yours before they're all gone!
