December 8….Ransom Canyon Christmas Tour of Homes - Come and experience the highlight of the Christmas season: the 27th annual Ransom Canyon Christmas Tour of Homes benefitting the Ransom Canyon Memorial Chapel. Four gorgeous homes are on the tour. The picturesque Chapel will also be open, serving hot cider and homemade cookies. December 8….A Broadway Christmas – Come enjoy a frolicking night of fun, excitement and incredible performances by a group of new amazing young talents. The event is produced and directed by John Gillas and Terri Caldwell with Marilyn Arland as music coordinator. John Gillas, the renowned former head of vocal performance at Texas Tech, has produced many students who are performing around the world and have realized ultimate success in the industry. December 9….New Neighbors Club Membership Meeting and Luncheon - Members and guests are invited to participate in this program and luncheon. Laney and John Wooten from the First Baptist Church music ministry will present this special Christmas musical program. Cost for lunch is $14 and reservations required. December 9-10….33rd Annual Candlelight at the Ranch
- Experience the Frontier Express during the 33rd annual Candlelight at the Ranch. The museum and historical park annually hosts the holiday event, where visitors walk down luminaria-lighted paths into Christmas scenes from life on the open prairie. Some 8,000 people annually attend this living history holiday event. Admission is free, but a donation of $2 per family is appreciated. Visitors to Candlelight at the Ranch will notice the incorporation of music into traditional features. The newly remodeled Cogdell’s Store will be open for shoppers in search of unique gift items. (Repeats Dec. 16-17)…."Ring Around Rosalie” - CATS Playhouse will be presenting the world premiere of “Ring Around Rosalie”, a new comedy written & directed by Whitney Ryan Garrity. This funny, fast-paced farce takes place in 1933 - the day after Prohibition ends. December 9-11….Ballet Lubbock presents: “The Nutcracker” -
This year's Nutcracker features guest artists Amar Ramasar (New York City Ballet Principal Dancer) and Lubbock's own NaTalia Johnson (New York City free lance dancer) in addition to entirely new choreography by Yvonne Racz Key, new costumes, a completely new lighting design, and bigger and better props and production effects. So yes, this Nutcracker is the best Ballet Lubbock has ever done. "It just simply isn't Christmas until you've seen The Nutcracker!" (Repeats Dec. 16–18)…."A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley" - A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley was adapted from Charles Dickens’ classic by Israel Horovitz and directed by John A, Packard. Famous the world over, the often bizarre and ultimately heart-warming story of Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and the others needs no detailing here. Horovitz’s adaptation follows the original scrupulously but, in bringing it to life on the stage, adds elements of inventiveness and brilliant theatricality which enhance and strengthen its timeless virtues. The end result is a theatre piece of unique eloquence, which will delight audiences of all ages, and draw forth the best efforts of all engaged in its presentation. - Listen to Christmas music while you make, bake and decorate Christmas cookies, the perfect parent child fun holiday activity. All materials are provided and each child will leave with cookies to take home and enjoy and share! Recipe will be provided for all cookies made during event. For ages 5-12. December 10….“Decorations from the Garden Make-and-Take Workshop” - The Arboretum will provide freshly cut greenery and other nature-based decorations. You bring your favorite ribbon and they will help you create a beautiful holiday wreath, centerpiece, swag, etc for the holiday season. Hot cider, cocoa, snacks and friendly hands-on instruction will put this seasonal event at the top of your “Must Do” list! Be sure and bring your canned goods for a food drive - to benefit the South Plains Food Bank! Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, 4111 University Avenue; 10 a.m.

December 10….Hodges Community Center’s 3rd Annual Santa Paws - Santa Paws coming to town and he wants to meet your pet! Bring your pet and get their picture made with Santa! Bring the whole family and let them get in the picture too for a complete “family” portrait. The first fifty families will receive a holiday treat bag for their pet! Cost is $1 per pet and includes pictures and treats. Hodges Community Center, 41st Street and University Avenue; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

December 10….Minis and Friends – Come and get pictures with Santa and a miniature horse. Pictures are $5 with their camera and they print the picture or $3 with your camera. All money raised goes to the care of the miniatures and to assist in providing visits for people in need of a smile. Market Street (98th and Quaker) from 12-3 p.m.

December 10….The Miracles Christmas Parade - Help spark the magic of Christmas and the excitement of the season during the Miracles Christmas Parade: "A Winter Wonderland.” Plan to get there early in the evening to find the perfect spot to watch marching bands, fire trucks, families, beauty queens, horses, dozens of decorated floats, honored guests and much more. The primary reason for the parade is to back to the community and to promote an atmosphere of family fun, family entertainment and togetherness. Each year, the parade will benefit the United States Marines “Toys for Tots” to make Christmas a magical season for families on the South Plains, and a time of sharing with those in need. There will be a "Toys for Tots" campaign conducted by the U.S. Marines and the Miracles Christmas Parade. Families will be invited to bring toys to the parade. The U.S. Marines will march along the route and collect toys from the crowd. Together, the citizens of Lubbock and surrounding communities will "Fill the Float". Hot chocolate, coffee, and hot apple cider will be sold at various locations along the parade route to benefit Lubbock charitable organizations including Lubbock Independent School bands. December 10-11….The Haven Animal Shelter Annual Santa Photos
- Santa Photos is an event sponsored by Petsmart in which pet parents and their pets can receive a holiday photo with Santa! For $9.95, you get a framed picture of your pet(s) with Santa. The proceeds are donated directly to the Haven on the day that we are at Petsmart. It's not just limited to dogs...you can also bring your cats or other pets for pictures! Petsmart, 6801 Slide Rd; 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

December 10-11….Auditions for C.A.T.S. Production - Children and Adult's Theatrical Studio will be holding auditions for the comedy, "You Can't Take It With You," by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Roles are available for 9 men and 7 women. Roles for ages 18-60. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. For more information please call (806)792-0501.C.A.T.S. – The Flying J Wranglers - from Ruidoso, New Mexico - bring their fabulous cowboy Christmas music back to the Cactus Theater this holiday season. Their show features rich western yodeling, vocals, fiddle and guitars in a program of traditional favorites and new and classic western/cowboy Christmas songs, instrumentals and homespun comedy. Annual Santa Land Festivities Kick Off This Weekend in Mackenzie Park!

December 10-23….Santa Land
- Santa and Mrs. Claus will be out nightly to hear the wish lists of children in Lubbock and the South Plains! Come out and enjoy Santa’s village, the 60-foot lighted Christmas tree, animated displays, entertainment, snacks, and more. Cameras allowed. You can take your own photos or staff will take them for $5.00. Annual attendance is approximately 32,000. Admission is free. For more information call 775-2673 or 775-2687.
