June 30….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase - This week's featured act is Wendy Colonaperforming her unique brand of folk rock. Performances are every Thursday evening from June 1 – September 1, 2011. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and innovative environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas made music. Summer Showcase 2011 is free. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. No outside food, beverages or coolers allowed. Buddy Holly Center Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Ave; 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

June 30, July 1….“Camp Rock: The Musical” – Come and enjoy the theatrical production of Disney's "Camp Rock" performed by the Lubbock Hub City Performing Arts School. "Camp Rock" is an entertaining rock n' roll Cinderella story of Mitchie Torres, a teen with an amazing voice and a driving ambition to be a pop singer who wants to spend her summer at a prestigious rock camp. Unfortunately, an expensive music camp is a bit out of reach for her family, but her mother gets a job as Camp Rock's cook so that Mitchie can attend as long as she helps out in the kitchen between classes. When she's overheard singing, but not seen, by teen pop star and celebrity camp instructor, plus lead singer of Connect Three, Shane Gray, he is completely taken and sets out to find the girl behind the beautiful voice. Meanwhile, Mitchie will have to learn how to confront her fears, step out of the kitchen and into the spotlight as herself. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the park or by calling 795-7344. Bring your lawn chairs and extra money for a hot dog dinner! Vintage Township’s Founders Park, 11410 Trafalgar Ave; 8 p.m.
Note: If temperatures are over 100 degrees on either of these two performance dates, show may be moved indoors to the "Town Hall" building in Vintage Township.

July 1….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. July 1-2….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents: “Annie” - Lubbock Moonlight Musicals is gearing up for the summer with its sixth season of summer musicals in the woodland setting of the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in Lubbock. Artistic Director Gerald Dolter promises the best summer yet—one that boasts large casts of new local talent and many budding child actors. The musical "Annie" is a show featuring children...and is all about children. More than 25 local girls, ages 5-14, will appear as orphans in the show. The role of Annie will be double-cast with Olivia St. Peter (daughter of Rick St. Peter) and Kennedy Reeves. Playing the role of Daddy Warbucks will be LMM veteran Mike Morgan. The cast also boasts the sultry voice of Allison Smith as Grace. All summer performances will be outdoors in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in beautiful MacKenzie Park. The audience is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and personal lawn chairs or blankets. Seating is on grassy terraces. Tickets are priced at $28 for center terrace, preferred seating and $20 for general admission. Prices include a service charge. Substantial group discounts are available, as well as special prices for students and children. Wells Fargo Amphitheater, 413 E. Broadway. Gates open at 7 p.m.; shows begin promptly at 8 p.m.

July 29 – 31….Lubbock Meals on Wheels Tennis Tournament - Once again, the tournament is being hosted by area country clubs (Hillcrest, LakeRidge, Lubbock, & The Falls) and the McLeod Tennis Center at Texas Tech and Burgess Rushing Tennis Center. The events include men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Once again, there is a junior tournament for players age 18 and under. The junior tournament is singles only. Due to the large number of entries, adult matches will begin on Friday, July 29. Also on Friday, players are invited to The Falls Tennis & Athletic Club for check-in, door prizes, and dinner. A casual dinner will be donated by Rudy’s Bar-B-Q. Play continues on Saturday and Sunday, and the weekend of events closes with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m., Sunday at The Falls. Awards will be presented for first, second, and third place winners in both the adult and junior tournaments and refreshments will be served. The entry fee, which includes invitations for two to the Friday evening events and a tournament t-shirt is $35 per person and $15 for the second event for adults, and $35 per person for the juniors. The entry and payment deadline was officially Tuesday, July 26...but check to see if any openings remain. A $5 fee will be charged to anyone paying after the deadline. July 2….Waylon Jennings Birthday Bash & Independence Day Celebration - This annual event presented by Littlefield Arts and Heritage Committee, will include indoor crafts from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and includes food vendors, a parade, barbecue lunch and live bands playing from noon 'til midnight. Lamb County Ag Center, South Hall Avenue, Littlefield, Texas. Events begin at 9 a.m.

July 3…. Lubbock Apartment Association Street Dance - The Lubbock Apartment Association Street Dance will feature the Casey Donahew Band with opening performances by William Clark Green and Hat Trick. There will be plenty of fun with live music, dancing, food and beverages. Tickets are and available at Select-A-Seat and the gate. Broadway & Texas Avenue (on the street); 7:30 p.m.

July 3 (also July 11, 17)….Westwinds Brass Band's Sunday Concerts in the Park - Bring your picnics, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the Westwinds Brass Band out under the stars at Wagner Park! Enjoy the evening and hear the nostalgic music while visiting with your neighbor....or meet a new one! A children's march is always included so come see what it's all about! Each performance is roughly one hour in length. No admission charge...just bring your lawn chairs and head for the park and enjoy a good old-fashioned band play wonderful nostalgic songs you're sure to enjoy. Wagner Park, 26th and Elgin Avenue; 8 p.m.
MONDAY - Independence Day!

July 4….4th on Broadway Festivities - The largest free festival in Texas is a true celebration of Independence Day. Featuring a fun-filled day of events for the whole family, general admission to all the events are FREE!

Kick off the day at the opening parade down the historic, brick-paved Broadway Avenue. Following the parade, spend the day at the street fair on Broadway: a festival of fabulous musicians on 8 stages, food vendors, games and much more.

Free Child ID Kits Available in July


Lubbock United Neighborhood Assoc.(LUNA) will have Free Child ID Kits available shortly to those who wish to have them. There is a limited number so contact LUNA ASAP to reserve your Child ID Kits. The Child ID Kits include the following items for parents to collect information about their children and to keep in a safe place so that if the unthinkable were to happen, families could provide law enforcement personnel with the necessary information to help find/locate their child. The Child ID Kits come in a regular size letter envelope and contain the following items:

1. A card that you can place your child’s fingerprints on, their vital information such as name, social security #, date and place of birth, physical description information and photo of child

2. Also Inkless applicator for providing fingerprints

3. And 2 sterile cotton tipped swabs for DNA that can be kept
