November 4….The 2010 Holiday Preview: A Fresh Perspective on Holiday Events in Lubbock
- Does the holiday season feel more stressful than joyful? It shouldn’t, especially when there are so many local companies to help you during this stressful time of year. The 2010 Holiday Preview is designed to meet all of your holiday needs; whether it’s getting the house cleaned and decorated, entertaining friends and family, finding the perfect gift, or keeping the kids busy (or out of your hair)! Let LakeRidge Country Club and Bon Soirée Lubbock Event and Party Planning Service help you prepare for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. Local companies will be there to assist you in all of your holiday needs from cleaning, decorating, and entertaining to finding the perfect gift; and there will be discounts, door prizes, and giveaways! The 2010 Holiday Preview will be catered by the LakeRidge Country Club Catering Department and childcare will be made available by Seeking Sitters. The event will showcase fun activities for the kids as provided by Teacher Heaven. You may also pre-register for seats on the Polar Express, leaving the station on November 19th. Lastly, no holiday event would be complete without supporting the needs of local charities and The Salvation Army will also be participating in this very special event. Not only will you be able to eat great food, buy unique gifts and get professional advice for decorating and entertaining for the holidays, but you will also have the chance of winning great prizes! Each of the retailers and service providers at the Holiday Preview will be offering special discounts and rewards. Come sample tasty treats, enjoy some holiday music and get help with all of your holiday needs. Admission is only $5.00/person (with 12 and under free). November 5….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues, plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. For more info and complete schedule click HERE! This continually evolving event runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.

November 5-6 (repeats November 12-13, 19-20, 26-27) “Minnie’s Pearls” - Who could have ever dreamed that a country gal with a $1.98 price tag hanging from her straw hat would become the queen of country comedy? For 50 years, the character Sarah Cannon created in "Minnie Pearl" held her position on the Grand Ole Opry with her countrified comedy routines. In her decades of appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, Minnie crossed paths, befriended and inspired many, many female country artists. The Cactus Theater proudly presents Jane Prince Jones as Minnie Pearl and Terri Caldwell singing the hit songs of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Reba McEntire, in their second production endeavor. Continuing in the tradition of "Always, Patsy Cline" come see this wonderful duo make their magic on stage once more in "Minnie's Pearls." Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at 762.3233. November 5-7….“The Elephant Man” - John Merrick, a young man with a severaly debilitating disease, is rescued by Dr. Frederick Treves from his exploitation as a side-show freak and becomes a London celebrity. Merrick changes the lives of those around him as he questions the rules of Victorian society. Winner of numerous Tony Awards including Best Play, the New York Times said that "It addresses the simple issue of what it means to be human." Rating: Drama: PG 13.
